Dometic awning tie down poles

This past weekend was out first trip out for the year, which also means it was the first time I got the new mods that I installed. One of the best mods was the awning tie down kit that Old Coot use to make.

The people across the road from us also had a Dometic power awning, it got kinda breezy on Saturday and I watched their awning "balloon up" a couple of times before they finally retracted the awning. Us mean while, with the poles out and the awning anchored by straps to screw in ground dog tie outs, our awning was able to stay out all day long without any problem what so ever! This kit is great!!

Thanks again OC!!

Here is a picture of it in use

Just got my recalled Dometic awning motor replaced this evening, so can finally install my OC support poles. Looking forward to 'test driving' them this weekend!

I know OC and Herk had both said that it was best to have the anchors out 2-3 feet from the base of the poles, so that way the straps were pulling the awning tight. I tried that and it did work very good that way, but I quickly found out that with that much space between the poles and the anchors it was way to easy for our dog to get warped up around both of them in figure 8 pattern or something like that. So I move the anchors in closer to the pole, about 8 inches or so between them, that the space was too small for her to get between. That way she just got warped around them as a single until and she was actually able to figure out how to get untangled a couple times, plus it was easier on me to untangle her.

Glad they worked for you. I usually put my dirt screws about 6'-8' out from the poles if possible. We try to tie our dog out so she can't get to the poles or dirt screws. She gets wrapped around the picnic table or around the tires or stabilizers.

Why can't I just put anchors out and strap to them without poles?

It puts a load on the flimsy arms which are adjustable and they cannot be tightened enough to keep from collapsing plus they will bend at the pivot in the arms. Other than that, all I can say is try it, you definitely won't like it.

If you look hard at the picture, she is warped around the picnic table. Right after I took the pic the table got moved just out of her range.

But on Saturday afternoon my wife, who was totally sober at the time, managed to trip on the anchors. Even with them only about 8 inches from the pole, and the yellow straps, but thats my wife... Unfortunately our 4yo DD has gotten my wifes, shall we call it "gracefulness" It keeps things entertaining!

I have searched but can't find the library? And I am a nerd! You would think I would know where to find articles.
