The reason the larger offset or "deadband" is used is to reduce the number of times the ac compressor cycles on and off. The ac compressor will operate for a longer period of time with the D2 setting than the D1 since it has more temperature to catch. Compressor starts are hard on compressors so you want to limit it as much as possible.
Most homes and commercial building use a 2 to 4 degree differential but you would not notice as much as you do in an RV since most buildings are insulated much better so the temperature change happens over a longer period of time.
