Double Flooring

I have a 2014 MicroLite 21FBRS with water damaged flooring that has soft spots. Can I simply build a new floor on top of the existing floor, or should I pull up the existing floor and rebuild it? It is not a very large area. Gracias!

What are you willing to accept in looks, feel, ridges in the floor, mismatched floor covering, etc.? That will give you your answer.

I am going to take a different stance. Can you get yet tea from under the trailer? Maybe attach larger pieces than the bad spot underneath, glue and brace in place. This might get you a trailer floor that is useable.

A college professor told me that the secret to success is to surround yourself with people who are much smarter than you. Thanks, gentlemen for your comments. I think I will try to support my soft floor from below, rather than to build a solid floor from above. I will follow-up with my results.

If you have water damage, and a soft floor area, just covering it, either from the top or bottom, will not get rid of the problem. Your still going to have bad/rotted wood under the "new" floor, and you still may have a leak that will rot the new covering.. If the soft area is still wet/damp when you cover it, you haven't acomplished anything...the rot will probably spread.

Double Flooring

I accept everyone's comments. I have an autoimmune neuromuscular disease called myasthenia gravis that is weakening my legs. The unstable soft floor is hazardous to me. I just need a temporary fix until I can trade my wreck in for a newer, better RV. All the RV brochures promise beautiful, high quality units at a nice price. But, I have learned that beauty is only skin deep. I will upgrade and improve my new RV right off the lot. My physical disability makes it difficult for me to make repairs. Until then, I will give it the good ol' college try. Stay cool my friends!

Thanks, B and B. A friend of mine with carpentry skills is helping me build a wood frame upon which to lay a 3/4" OSB custom cut sheet. An indoor/outdoor rug will be glued and stapled on top. A beveled piece will minimize the outer floor lips. All is good.
