dual battery box

Our FR Surveyor SP220 came with 2-12v batteries from the dealer in seperate battery boxes. I found that inconvenient and looked around for a dual battery box for 12v group 24 or group 27 batteries and just couldn't find one nor would a dual 6v battery box work either, too small. I found this commercial battery box on Amazon.com for $80; probably a little pricey but it has worked out just fine. It's a NOCO HM484 single 8D battery box; inside width 11.5", inside length 24.5" and inside height of 10.5". The length was just perfect as was the height; the extra width I filled in with rigid foam blocks I got at Wallyworld in the fake plants section. I think it worked out great; good quality and convenient hold down lid fasteners.

I found a narrow aluminum diamond-plate truck toolbox at Lowe's that fit in that same space. I have four 6-volt golf cart batteries mounted inside, for a total of 460 amp hours, plus there is room for leveling blocks and blocks for under the stabilizing pads.

I like the diamond plate idea especially if it is lockable.

I bet the diamond plate box looks great! Please post some pics; would like to see it.
We don't dry camp much, maybe once every couple of years, so 2 12v batteries works just fine for us but I can see where 4 6v batteries would be the cat's meow! How long can you stay boondocked with that arrangement?
