Easier access to Under Bed Storage

Thought I would share these easy to make door supports for your under bed storage doors. Personally, I think the rv manufacturers should add these types of simple things for what we pay for an rv! And, it would keep us all from being aggravated!

3/4" underground pvc pipe, a hole drilled in it, a lag bolt and washers, and a rubber chair leg cap! Simple!

I like to use the "Lift Supports". little more expensive than your mod, but they work well.

master bed lift

I have pistons on my new wildwood xlite but when we lift the bed it doesn't stay up so I am wondering what the pistons are really for?

Go figure! Thanks for the reply, hope this low cost solution helps. All of those piston type products all go bad over time as well, and are costly! These are forever, and won't fail! Seems to be one of the biggest issues with these trailer manufacturers. I don't know where they get their engineers, but it might be CA or CO, they all seem to be smoking too much of something, and sure don't get things right! Just sayin.......

I use a three foot length of wooden closet rod with 3/4 inch rubber feet on each end. Also drilled a 1/2 inch hole in one end so dw can crank the bathroom vent open without climbing on anything - other end is for pushing the on/off button.

I just took a piece of PVC, cut to length with a cap at both ends. It lays in the bottom and when you lift the bed you stick it in to hold it up. Place it right in the corner and it's tough to knock out.

Lasted 12 years on our Jayco queen bed, then we sold it. 14 years on the wife's Ford hatchback...still holds the hatch up. I suppose the ones on my Cherokee will be there long after we sell it.

Our pistons didn't hold up a really good residential matress, but worked with original extra light one. Our daughter then gave us a lighter temprapeic. It now works again.

Hatchlift Installation Video

I made a YouTube video about my installation of a Hatchlift Bed Lift kit.

It took a few relocation's of the lower strut ball to get the pressure just right because I have a long piece of plywood that extends past the front of the hatch frame. It looks like your hatch is installed in a more conventional manner so I think the default location in the instructions would work fine.

I just do this for fun so it is not a professional video, please excuse the audio quality.

Great idea on the PVC with chair leg caps.
On my to-do list now.

Nice! Great idea! My bed is pretty tall, would make for some deep drawers, that I would more than likely loose things in!

Nice idea, but on mine there is only about 18" of space from end of bed to the wall so it would be a really short drawer. If you have the space, drawers would be a great idea.

Same here but 18” gives us quite bit of room in those drawers. If I really need to store more stuff then I do lift the bed.

I made one drawer that opens through the door to the bathroom. Still have storage on the sides of the drawer under the bed for things I don't need very often.

I just cut a piece of closet rod to the length I needed and put rubber cane tips on each end and just lay it in the front of the storage area under the bed...

Under Bed Storage

We were told by tech when we purchased our 2016 Forest River Forester Class C that there was no under bed storage; that the water pipes ran under there. Lo and behold! We discovered it did lift up! We put lifts on each end and have a pole to slip under a small board attached to hold it up.
