Have one in our trailer and I too thought they looked kinda useless. The few times I've used it, we're warm weather campers at the moment, I really liked it. And the dogs LOVE it. Their beds lay in front of it.

Take the chill off and gives off a nice warm appearance so we're happy with ours.

khbama....

If you don't care about appearances, then why not just buy an electric heater for a fraction of the cost?

We like ours. I set the temp to 60 and 8 hrs on the timer as we are turning in for the night. We sleep well through the night and wake up to a comfortable camper.

Was not really referring to appearance of the unit itself, more of the appearance of the fire on the fireplace. I would like to have a permanent "heater" instead of having ceramic heaters plugged in. Just personal preference

40' fifth wheel and we use the electric fireplace in Iowa. Does a decent job. We use a small fan to help circulate air to garage if the kids are with us. When it drops to around 32 degrees I will use the propane and electric as needed.

If that's the case then go for the fireplace.

As mentioned, watts are watts and most of the factory fireplaces are up to 1500 watts. Many plug in type electric space heaters are the same wattage so one won't be 'hotter' than the other.

We preferred not to get the fireplace (to gain storage) and use a portable space heater instead.
As mentioned, the fireplace does a good job of heating the area where it is located but not the entire rig.

We use our electric heater in the living area when we are awake and can easily move it to the bedroom/bath area when needed. Can't do that with the permanently mounted fireplace but everyone has their preferences.

My wife and I would always make fun of the ones that had it at the shows, but ended up ordering our new unit with one. The only times we are really in the camper is sleeping and in the morning we chill abit before venturing out. It takes the chill out and makes it comfy. Also we do turn it on at night and set the timer..saves propane. We had enough cabinet space/wall space to go with it.

It is a bit pricey for the option, I wouldn't think cost of them is much more than about $40...

It's kinda cool sometimes to turn on the fireplace but not turn on the heat on the fireplace. It looks like real logs burning but no heat

It takes the chill off. I turn mine on at night on the lowest temp it will go (72 degrees) and turn on the A/C fan (just on fan) to circulate the heat. If the outside temp is in the 40s, it will keep the inside temp around 60. So, it raises the temp about 15 degrees from the outside temperature. It is enough to keep from freezing, when getting out of bed. When it gets really cold, we also turn the furnace on and set it for about 58 degrees. I don't want the furnace coming on and us hearing the jet engine, unless we really need it!

Ours is 32'5" (per paperwork) with opposing slides also and as stated, " The electric fireplace does a great job of keeping the trailer warm in the fall and also helps reduce the amount of furnace run time in the winter." Our remote control failed this year, however, so we have to walk all the way to the fireplace to turn it on of off!

You need to train the kids, grandkids or puppy to turn it on/off.

That was my job back in the 60's with the television.
On/off... or change channels... or hold one side of the rabbit ears antenna in just the right position to see Huntley/Brinkley and Walter Cronkite.

I WAS the remote!

If you mean order it installed as an option, I'd say it's probably worth it.

If you mean buy one and install it somewhere yourself as a mod, I would have to think on that a few times.

It's a LOT easier and a LOT cheaper to just buy a $30 space heater. One advantage of a space heater is you can move it around.

Yeah and it freaks out dinner guests who come to the coach in July when it is 110° outside
