Factory counter extension question

My Rockwood has a countertop extension that stores under the sofa. Was looking at trying to attach it to where it usually mounts so it's on some type of hinge and can just be folded up when needed. Has anyone else done this? If so how did you go about doing it?

Try Rockler.com for folding brackets. if folding/retractable legs are not already on it, you might have to add those also.

I have one with the retractable single leg. DW insisted on buying it.

First time we had it installed she bumped into it (in the way when coming down the stairs in the 5th wheel). It has now lived permanently under the couch since.

Depending on how far your counter extends, a short extension needs a piano hinge and two folding shelf or drop-leaf table brackets from your local hardware store. However, I think that a long extension would require the leg support.

I was thinking about using a piano hinge. Just wondering if it would be strong enough to hold the weight of the extension hanging on it. Especially during travel.

I think it would really depend on the length and weight of the extension. I have a 12" TV stand with a hinge and two brackets and it is pretty sturdy but its also relatively short and lightweight.
