Generator (Capable for 50a)

I'm in the market for a portable generator for our 5th Wheel. Does anyone have any recommendations which to use? Was looking for a quiet model that was capable of running up to 50a to power both AC units.

Two Honda 3000's in parallel should do. Only other option would be the built in onan.

I saw those could be parralleled,would you just have to make a cord with a 30a connector from each generator to a 50a connection to the camper?

Two Honda 3000-watt gensets would not have to be "sync'd" to operate a fifth-wheel with a 50-amp plug, as each leg is completely isolated from the other, but you have to remember that you still will only have 25-amps per leg, not 50.

You'd likely be able to run both A/Cs, but adding in additional draws like microwave ovens, electric water heaters, and toasters might be a bit much.

Remember, at 120-volts, two Honda 3000s are 6000 watts, and a fifty-amp RV service is (50 + 50) x 120 = 12,000 watts.

To answer the preceding question, yes, a custom "Y-Pigtail" would be the best way of connecting it all.

How about the brand/model, is the Honda a good choice for the money?

We have a 9.6k with a 20 hp twin cyl briggs engine at the shop and it's still only 30amp

Not very portable either. Or quiet .

I dont know that I have ever seen a portable gen actually rated for 50 amp service. Many have a 30 amp plug, but dont actually make a true 30 amp.

I think you have a choice between portable or 50 amp, but not both.

Having a quiet generator for 50 amps is going to be a challenge, really depending on your definition of what quiet is.

I have seen some Generac portable generators at Home Depot that have a 50 amp receptacle as well as just looking at some Champion brand name ones a month back when we were threatened by a hurricane.

Here is one of the Champion ones at Camping World, that even though it has a 50 amp receptacle, you are still limited to 7500 running watts.

Onan has a 12.5K but at 770lbs not really portable.

Be careful of those generators at Home Depot, etc. The 30 and 50 amp plugs are 240 volt and could fry your electronics. I don't now about the one at Camping World...
the honda's have a paralles power kit to conect two units and includes an RV plug
