So I had a dog briefly and she was as sweet as she could be except when she was left alone in her kennel while I was at work. Severe separation anxiety. Unfortunately I had to let her go because I was working 12-14 hours a day and was unable to care for her properly. Anyway long story short the last day I had her she completely destroyed the back bedroom of my ‘16 model 356QB. I finally got to repair the damage this past week and I have to say I think it turned out pretty decent. What do y’all think?

Also I have to replace a door that she ate so you’ll see it in the after pictures unfortunately since I haven’t ordered the door yet.

I had to install new carpet over the existing linoleum in the bedroom because the dog somehow managed to rip up a couple spots so carpet was the best option for me. I also removed the fold down couch/bed and built a new full size bed frame to replace the couch with. There’s about 2” of space between the edge of the mattress and the slide on the other side when they’re both slid in so it was a perfect fit in my opinion.

Very nice work. Our sheltie went through a bad storm alone in New Orleans many years ago and to this day freaks when it storms or loud bangs. Our damage was never as severe as yours but I did get very good at replacing the screen on the door. Have carried a roll of screen ever since. Clyde, our travelling companion is having some health issues this summer and we're thinking this could be his last camping/boating season.

Thank you. I also had to replace the screen on my front door and I’ve got to replace a couple of blinds that were trashed as well. I’m so sorry about your traveling partner. Just enjoy and love him as best and as long as you can.

Dogs require some looking after.
Otherwise they will tear up stuff.
I travel with three dogs and they don't destroy anything.

I think you are best off without a dog at this time. It takes time to train them.

Either I misunderstood that perhaps you left the dog alone for 12 to 14 hours in that tiny space, or it just happen spontaneously when you were in the RV? Dogs need love and attention, exercise play and companionship, so probably would be best that you don’t have a dog.

Being part of a rescue group I am sensitive to the issues.

Dogs are a lot of work. We love ours however life in the fifth wheel several months a year is a lot of work with the dog. And, it crimps our style. We try not to leave her more than 6 hours, mostly 4. Likely she is the last. But, I do like having a real guard dog. Do not feel we need a weapon.

Lots of folks select the wrong breeds.

We have a long application before we give someone one of our rescues.

They are just not for everyone.

They are a lot of work in the rv.

Now that I am retired, I want to relax, enjoy myself, have no time restraints. You've convinced me, no dog.

We have been traveling with a for 35 years. For a short time 2 of them. Never had any damage or even a bathroom accident. We try to keep alone time to 8 hours or less. We can watch the temps and see the room he likes best and hear if he is barking by vell phone.

You sound like us, when we got our Min. Sheltie he was a rescue. He, his two sisters and mom were abandoned in a residential home. I was still Sheriff at the time and fell in love with Clyde when I first saw him. Got things worked out with the other three and we were able to keep him. Best pooch we have ever had but, he does get to be a hassle both at home and in the rv or boat. He is twelve now and his stay alone time has gone down a lot. My wife and myself are now retired and with all of our hobbies including travelling he is like having a child along. Love him to death but when his time is done on this earth we will not be getting another.

My wife and I travel with two dogs now but last year we decided we wanted the freedom from restrictions while camping.

We have rescued numerous dogs and yes, they are a lot of work and require attention.
Agree with Tomkatb on not leaving longer than 4 maybe up to 6 hours at any time.

Prior to our new older dog (not puppy stage) and putting down our other senior hound, we found out ourselves what separation anxiety in our younger one when left alone, hence we now have another second dog.

Does the cycle ever end if you love your companion?

As we are posting I am now listening to a yappy dog a few sites over. Owners out for the evening. Typical. Oh well relax and Let it go. Last campsite again very noisy dogs barking every time another dog went by, when confronted what did the owners say? They are just saying hello to each other it’s OK. Really!

As for the OP we had a dog who was very well loved by two children and two adults. Every time we left the dogs alone we would come home to a turd by each of the two child’s beds. Having said that our next dog a little Cockapoo was the worlds best dog for sixteen wonderful years.

Don’t give up, somewhere out there is your best friend.
