Hard Start Capacitor

I have a 13.5 BTU A/C (Dometic). I want to add a hard start capacitor. I have searched here and other forums and seem to get conflicting info. Do I want the Supco spp6 or the SPP6E?. Thanks for any info....

Also I have a thread to delay fans while compresser starts and gets up and running. About a 5 second delay.

It made a big difference in mine. It is very easy and cheap to do. They should come this way from the factory.

OK - I know what a capacitor is and what it's purpose is. My question is - are you talking about installing one in a unit that has its AC's powered by shore power only or in a unit that has an onboard generator?

I am having a second AC installed in my FW and the dealer just stated to make sure I wait about 30 seconds after starting the first one before starting the second one.

If you already have a start capacitor it is a simple swap..2 wires. If not, you piggyback onto your run capacitor. The SPP6E has a instant restart feature where the SPP6 does not. I'm trying to find out which is the correct one to use?

e is for 5 horsepower, spp6 is for 3 HP per mfg. brochure. Don't think that a/c is 5 HP.

According to the link you posted above the 6E is for 1/2 to 3hp. The differenece seems to be the electronics of it.

Reading down the list of comments on the above link from Modmyrv, I found this:

If you are adding a hardstart to your RV A/C unit, use the SPP6 [no E]. The SPP6E is not designed for 120VAC applications, The “E” series is also an instant restart unit, this does not allow the generator sufficient time to rampup to full power. The SPP6 has the preferred PTC relay and allows a longer ramp up time. The SPP6 is rated for 120VAC usage.
Remember for every thousand feet above sea level you generator drops 3% of output. On hotter days the A/C drops in efficiency as well. Check with your A/C manufacturer on the correct generator size for your unit. As far as I know there is not a manufacturer that will reccomend a 2000 watt generator to run a 13,500 BTU A/C unit.

Agreed, most diff is the "e" is new and costs near 3x as much.

I read somewhere that a rep from Supco said not to use the SPP6E with a generator. I'm not sure but all I can tell you is I installed the SPP6 on my air conditioner and it works fine on both shore power and generator power.

Sorry - just tailing / searching the forum(s) - I have a 2006 Cherokee 305B 5er that just started having AC start up issues. After a trip from VA last week that was in the mid to upper 90's. The AC would run all day, then @ night when it finally reached the stat set temp the AC would shut off, BUT then on start up would blow the 20amp AC breaker. I'm looking to do this mod - add (replace~I think) the start up cap to a Supco Mfg. - SPP6 - Hard Start Capacitor (which is on its way in the mail).
Now just to be clear on the Hard Start Capacitor mod ( I haven't looked at my AC yet) - am I REPLACING or adding it? I have a Duo Therm AC unit. I hope to do these mods this week end - I would appreciate it if I could use your info and you to help out.
