has anyone actually tested the current draw of their interior LED bulbs?

iv been on a little LED kick as of late... i just ordered LEDs for every lamp and housing on the exterior mostly for appearance features. i want to outfit the interior with LEDs as well.....but for a completely different reason. i was to conserve power.....like everyone else using LED interior. the natural "white" light color will be an added bonus, but i mostly want to conserve power.

has anyone actually tested the current draw through an LED interior bulb vs a regular bulb? if so, what are the results?

Well I have not actually tested the draw but I know its small. With just 2 fixtures on in my RV with standard filiment the fan in the converter would come on and you could hear it. I can run the entire rig all on with LED and the fan does not come on PERIOD! I am using bright white 36 led panels 921 fitment. I have my rig to the point I can run the entire rig off battery/gas except for the AC.

The LED mod is 2 fold in my opinion, it cuts power use and saves power as it does not need the AC to combat the heat those bulbs produced, in winter this may be a wanted feature yet very inefficient.

I had my 2011 Roo in to get worked on and they wanted to do a test on my LEDs that i installed. So 5 days with all lights on inside and the battery that came with the camper i still had lights. I am glad i did the LED because we do a lot of Dry camping.

I have a TM-2025RV battery monitor and it reads down to 1/10th amp draw.

A single 921 Incandescent draws 1.2 amps per bulb. or 2.4 amps per fixuture.

I replaced them with 36 LED pads from Hong Kong (Farmseller on eBay)
They are brighter and draw 0.1 amps or (100 milliamps) per pad

Do a search on eBay for SMD24 or SMD36 you will see many offerings in China - often with free delivery. Takes 2-3 weeks by mail. Work great and the draw is more or less 1/10th of an incadescent bulb, period. If you use the battery often, it is fabulous.

I prefer 2 X 24 LEDs over 2 X 36 LEDs, too bright for us and highlight our wrinkles too much

The only problem I had was that they would not stay stuck and kept falling down inside the casing, but thanks to herk7769's great wisdom & expertise - no more problems. I am very happy. Do a search you will find his suggestions.

The pads do get hot when running so the glue sheet that holds the pad up separates and the pad drops. No matter what brand I tried they all had the same issue. I thought I had it figured out by using Extreme Velcro "hook" side to the PC board, but while the pile side stayed firmly stuck to the fixture, it just took longer to fall. Then I had an Epiphany and added thin pieces of zip tie. White would have been better, but even the yellow is hard to see.




Sorry for the dirty fingers , the LEDs were not my first project that day.

so what you are doing then is holding the velcro in place against the light pad with the plastic tie, then putting up to the other vecro piece glued to the fixture???

Yes, Those are the very same units I am using just half the price I paid.

Make sure to use "Extreme Velcro" available at Home Depot or Lowes. They are sticky both sides. You will need the small zip ties to hold the hook side of the Velcro to the PC board. The Pile side sticks just fine to the fixture (just wipe with an alcohol pad first).
