Hauling 4 stroke outboard motor - any ideas

Just purchased an inflatable Achilles with a 9.9 hp to go with our Sabre fifth wheel. Comes in two bags and will easily fit in our storage or back of truck.

Problem is the new 4 stroke motors should be transported/stored vertically.

Any ideas?

Do you have room between the front of the hitch and the back of the truck cab. If you do you could build a wooden rack to place the motor on.

You could mount a receiver on the front of the truck and have a 2" steel frame built to accept the motor in a vertical fashion. You could than drive the motor down to the lake and just lower it onto the boat. For that matter you could also hook it up to a winch to do the heavy lifting for you.

dleitermann did you get the bike rack with your Sabre? If so you could get a welding shop to weld a outboard motor stand and then strap the stand and motor to the bike rack.

Yes we do have the bike rack, but we will have bikes on it. I guess we like our toys!

I have a 9.9 Mercury 4 stroke motor, and I lay it down on its handle against the rear of my pickup box forward of the 5th wheel hitch. It has never leaked oil in the truck. Check with your motor manufacturer, I think you will find that it can be laid down on the handle. The handle on my motor even unlocks and folds down toward the propeller for a smaller footprint when travelling. I use a bike wire lock to lock it to the 5th wheel hitch inside the box.
