Heated mattress pad on memory foam mattress??

We are thinking of adding a electric heated mattress pad on top of our memory foam mattress. We think that this will allow us to be more comfortable then camping in cooler temperatures.

Has anyone done this? Any problems with the memory foam mattress? Any recommendations on what mattress pad to buy?

We have 2" of memory foam on our mattress and we put a twin size electric heated pad on my side. I had back surgery some yrs back and the heat sure helps. My wife doesn't like the heated pad which is why it is a twin. We do this in our house as well as in the camper. Been doing it for several years and have not had a problem.

The reason I asked is because we have a TemperPedic at home and a foam mattress in the trailer we bougtht from WM.com. It serves us well. And it is not cold like a regular spring mattress. Now our winters don't usually get real cold but I never dread getting in bed for fear of it being cold.

So to the OP, how cold are you talking about?

We camped last year in temps in the high 30's and low 40's at night.

No issue with the memory foam mattress being cold. Our bed is a queen that comes down from the ceiling in the garage. Since cool air can circulate under the bed, I thought a heated mattress pad would be good. We had a heated pad years ago when we lived in upstate NY.

Any potential problems when we turn on the heat? Will the hear transfer thru the 2" foam?

I won't be able to answer that question for I don't have a problem with the cold. My mattress acts as an insulator from the cold. I have no experience with a heated mattress pad but if it has wires like an electric blanket, and if it has a broken wire, you won't have any trouble getting out of bed! As far transferring heat through a 2" pad, you'll just have to try it.

I don't think you will have a problem with the heated matress pad on memory foam. The pad does not get that hot. We have one that we used in our popup. It was the only way to stay warm as you only had cold air under the bed. We camped in below freezing weather and it kept us warm. We have a queen size with two comtrols, which is nice because i like it cooler than DW.

1) You don't put the memory foam on the pad, you put the pad on the memory foam.
2) If a wire breaks, the pad just quits working.

FreedomTracker, we have the same set up- a heated mattress and I just added a 2" memory foam pad. Going for a long weekend in nothern Mn on Oct 6th. We will probably get a chance to try the heated mattress. I'll let you know if the heat comes through.

I would guess you won't get much heat thru the 2" memory foam as we tried putting the heating pad under it and got nothing until we put the pad on top of the foam.

Good luck, maybe the heated mattress puts out more heat.

Just to clarify... we have a heated "mattress" not a "mattress pad". The 2" memory form has no choice but to go on top.

Fortunately, living in FL we have minimal cold nights... just want to dtermine what to expect when we flip the switch..?

Wondering whether it's ok to put a 1" memory foam on top of heated mattress. Concerns are does heat come through foam and/or does the foam hurt the heated mattress?

We used to have a heated mattress with a 1" memory foam topper and it worked great, don't know about 2" though.

We have a heated mattress with 2 " MEMORY FOAM topper I wouldn't turn heated mattress on memory foam holds enough body heat and makes bead hot enough. Don't know what happens with the mattress if it shorts out would it melt the topper and cause you to get a bad burn?
