Exclamation HELP! Fathers day gift: Electric tongue jack

Hi all!

I am looking to buy my husband an electric tongue jack for our travel trailer for father's day. We have an Apex 300BHS which weighs 6000 lbs dry. My husband mentioned he found one for $150-$200 but when I look online I didn't see one that said it could hold 6k lbs. The highest weight I found was 4000 and it was $400. Can anyone point me in the right direction, pretty please?

Thanks in advance!

The 4K tongue jack will work for your trailer....remember that you are only lifting the weight of the tongue and not the entire RV. Assume your 6K loaded trailer's tongue weight is likely within-in the 600-900# range. I use a Husky Brute....pretty happy with it. Its a 4K tongue jack too. That would be a great fathers day gift!

Tongue wt of 15% would only be 900#, a 2,000#-2500# capacity jack should be plenty.

The tongue jack does not support the entire weight of the trailer, only the tongue weight, therefore you do not need a 6000# jack. Look on the side of the trailer and find the GVW probably somewhere near 8000-8500#. Tongue weight is normally less than 20% of total weight ( tires support the majority of the weight). So a 2000# jack will be fine and last a little longer as it has some operating margin.

Thank you everyone!!

Camping world is having a sale, they have a 3500 lb electric tongue jack for $169. That sounds really reasonable. Any thoughts?

From my experience, look for one that has ball bearings and limit switches or electronic stops. I dont know exactly what unit you are looking at but I had a LCI jack that only lasted me about 8 months before completely giving out. The LCI did not have limit switches and apparently really did not like hitting the mechanical stops. Others have had similar issues with he LCI factory supplied tongue jacks.

Thanks, not many of them mention specs like ball bearings or limit switches. Even the husky only says it has ball bearings, no mention of limit switches.

I'm looking here: Search - electric tongue jack - Camping World

I have the husky with remote and it is awesome for self hitching and leveling the camper but you do have to add a separate on/off switch otherwise it drains the battery

I bought my husband the Barker VIP electric jack from Ebay a few years ago. It's wonderful! And made in the USA. Assuming they still have them, I would do it again if needed.

My 2 cents worth on Camping World's Tongue Jack

I purchased an electric tongue Jack from Camping World as a gift for my hubby when we had our TT. Because of the design where the control was located, it was constantly exposed to the elements. We got to the point that we placed a sand bucket over the top of it do keep the rain out of it. After about 6-8 months, it finally gave out. As we hadn't purchased the warranty for this item, we weren't sure how or even if Camping World would handle this issue. And, of course, we no longer had the receipt for this product. We took it back, they looked up our receipt and promptly replaced the unit for us. Not only did they replace it, but upgraded it to the premium Jack they carried. The design element had changed - rain could no longer get into the controls. We were so very pleased with Camping Workd and how they resolved this issue.

Thumbs up

Great idea for a gift. We bought one for our son at Christmas. It only took about 20 min to install it and loves it.

You can probably use about any 2500- 3500 jack. That weight speaks to tongue weight and, LIFTING the back of the truck some during hitch up.

Black or white to match, as you prefer. .

Happy dad's Day

Right now, I'm leaning towards :

Husky 3000lb Electric Jack - Husky 87248 - Tongue Jacks - Camping World

There are a few cheaper options, also with great reviews, but no name brand. I also don't know if its worth buying a protection plan.

Thoughts??

I just re-purchased one of these...
Jack Quick 3500 JQ-3500B 12V Electric Tongue Jack with Dual Lights, 3650 lb. Capacity / Black

I had put one on my last camper, and sold it with the camper. I liked it so much I bought it again for my new Roo. Only $120 on Amazon!

I'm another one of those who went from a bad OE LCI to a Barker. Really like my Barker.
