Help with water pump bypass

I was ready to install the water pump bypass kit I bought but have a question about a plastic cup like thing on the suction side. I hope it is visible in the photos. The white pipe from the fresh water tank comes up thru the floor and there is a hand nut where it connects to the cup thing. On top of it is a white sticker that has the manufactured date April 2015. Then that piece connects to the pump. (The second picture of the pump looks like it may load upside down and I don't see how to rotate it) I started to unscrew the cup thing and it hissed like there was some pressure. By the way, pump is off but I haven't drained the water lines yet.
So I'm wondering what the cup might be?
And I'm thinking to install the bypass kit, I just undo the hand nut, screw on the bypass valve, then put the hand nut with the water pipe from the fresh water tank back on .
Any comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks youroo. I thought it might be a backlog preventer something. I would have put the valve between the fresh water hand nut and this screen if you had not said to put it between the pump and the screen. Your instruction makes sense now. Thanks.

Kcmusa - are the water lines you added just off the shelf water supply pipe from the hardware store like you use in the home bathroom for the sink and wc? That looks exactly what I need to do since I don't think I can spread things apart enough between the pump and where the pipe comes thru the floor to get the new valve in. Thank you for posting.

correct, most home stores will have them. make sure you get the same ends. Standard water lines are different sizes on each side.
Found mine at lowes.

I got the water pump by-pass hooked up today. I had to turn on the A/C because it was so hot inside the TT. Somehow, that just doesn't seem right.
One thing I didn't do was put the small filter back on. Does anyone think it might be a mistake leaving it off? I can go back and add if necessary but leaving it off made for a lot neater install.
Since this was my first time to winterize myself, I thought I would do the blow out of the lines first to see how that went. I by-passed the water heater and things seemed to go Okay but the Kitchen sink still sputtered water a little.
Then used the new water pump by-pass to fill the lines with the RV Antifreeze. That went good although the hose into the jugs kept trying to curl up from the bottom of the jug. It only took about Two gallons and then I used another gallon to put down the traps and toilet.
So any thoughts on that little cup type filter?
And now that I have it winterized and seeing these warm temperatures and no cold spells in the forecast, we are giving serious thought to go back out another time or two. I'm thinking with the first winterizing under my belt, the next one should go a lot faster.
