Hit by Door

Our CC 30RL has a great basement door on the passenger side. Opens from bottom to top with two lifters and two latches.

However, the opposite side, with access to the basement as well as the water connections and dumping valves open with a hinge on the left side of the door and a single latch on the right side. When this door is fully open it blocks access to the hydraulic leveling system and the battery compartment and sticks out farther than the front of the RV when fully open. Even with just a light wind it's pretty easy to be surprised when the door catches the breeze and slams into your back when you're trying to get something out of storage or dumping the tanks.

Does anyone have any ideas to modify the door or to help secure it when it's open?

Second question: Twice during towing this same door has opened up on us despite our best efforts to be sure that the latch mechanism has engaged. Any better ways to ensure latching ?

Put a couple of gas struts on it or one of those plastic catches on it.

We have the same door on the CC38FL - except our hydraulic controller is inside that door (not a separate door).... I have been surprised by the door in the wind also... Thinking of putting a small catch chain from the door to the inside frame, but have not decided yet.

We have not had any problems with the door opening in transit.

Also make sure you lock the latches before getting underway. This usually stops things from the inside vibrating against the door and allowing it to open. That way when you stop for fuel/lunch whatever, you can be reasonably sure of arriving with what you packed.

Can you run a bungee cord with plastic hooks (to avoid scratching) from the top of the door down to that stabilizer foot that I see in the picture? The bungee would be in front of the door and would have to stretch and slide along the top of the door for the door to close.

Yes, we lock and make sure that it's closed very well each time we stop, but sometimes it works its way open. Haven't lost anything, nothing pressing against it from the inside.
The bungee may be a good idea-we'll see if we can rig something up!
