home made jenny stand for a TT

I would to know if anyone has made a TT stand for the back of the trailer for a Jenny.

I went overboard

Yep, on my first trailer, I did it but I kind of went overboard. I made a 7.5ft by 3.5 ft platform for generator, firewood(hate hauling wood inside), bikes….. I took expanded metal and framed that with 2in angle, braced it with 1in angle and cut and fabricated brackets out of 5/16in plate and bolted it to the TT frame. I wanted to protect the gen so I built a house for it with venting fans and exhaust port.
The platform was maybe 80lb the gen was another 80lb then by the time I loaded everything else I might have been close to 350+lb cantilevered on the back of the TT. To much weight on the back and the trailer handled terribly. Took it down to just bikes and gen in housing and that worked well; I had to keep a few things in the TT to keep the nose down on the truck. I hauled like this for 3yrs half way across the states with no problems. I did get lots of questions about the gen house with most people thinking it was a doghouse but it sure kept the gen clean and secure.
On my new TT I put a hitch on the back so I can swap out for bike rack or smaller carry platform, could put a gen out there. I sold my gen with the old TT so at the moment I don’t have one but I will someday. This time I am thinking of putting a hitch on the front of the truck and hauling it there to spread things out a bit.
Things I learned: to much weight on the back is not good(probably under 200lb is OK but all trailers are different and how they are loaded will matter), keep anything off the back high enough not to drag going in and out of driveways(I have raised both my TTs), secured & covered is good and think about storing extra gas with your gen not in TT or TV(I have a SUV and hate traveling with gas inside).
Just my thoughts
John

I forgot to mention the 1 x 1/4in angle that I welded to the brackets for added strength. It was a beast of a platform; I kind of miss it

What kind of TT? In warranty or out of warranty?

I made one at considerable cost, but it never made it out of the neighborhood. Looked cool but darn near ripped the bumper off the camper. Even with the steel supports bolted to the frame the flex scared my DW following me in the car for my drive around the block.

Oh, and some years later I needed a tow due to a blown bearing.
Imagine where I would be if it HAD worked.

NCL6694 you better do a lot of research before you spend the time and money. There's more threads pertaining to back bumper racks in this forum than you would ever want to read thru. Bottom line is you need to check with Forest River (and the frame manufacturuer too) to understand what the recommendations are for your particular TT, even if it is out of warranty. Light weight TTs and FWs have light weight frames and that back tube bumper on many of these RVs is not strong enough to support anything much over 150-200lbs, less depending on how you attach it. (On our first FW, 2005 Flagstaff, I almost lost the bumper, rack and Honda eu3000is on I-95).

No one fully realizes the forces that a back bumper rack goes thru while going down the road. Like Lou's wife, I followed a FW down the road last summer and was blown away at how much his bikes moved. We pulled into the same campground and to my surprise, I could not move his bikes with my hands. But, they were bouncing all over the place going down the road.

I was going to put a rack on our newest FW (2010 Sandpiper) and have decided against it at this point in time. The frame mfg Lippert (Lippert Components, Inc) does sell racks for their frames. Hope this helps.

Mount the bike rack to the front of the TV, larger crumple zone in the event of a header.

I have been looking at folding bikes and then stowing them on the bed.

I looked at moving the gen rack to the front of the TV but the rack was too low and hit everything. I eventually put the bikes there because the rack was angled up.

Note the sticker going on the new bumpers.

26 footer Keystone. the rear bumber is welded to the frame. I plan to put a champion 3100 inverter genny on it. I haven't decided on how to mount it though.

I'd mount it in your truck bed.
We dry camp three times a year and my gennie is twice as big as the proposed gennie and it fits nicely in front of 5th wheel hitch.
I'm so against putting anything remotely heavy on the rear bumber and I have a factory installed 450# fold down rack on mine.

My rack carries my bags boards and rvq grill.
Occasionally a cooler jamb packed with beer.

I need to find out if mine will fit, I taped it and it looks like it will fit.
Problem is I do not live that lucky.......

I wish I had a pic of it in there with the camper hooked up.
It looks like it would never clear but it does.

I have a 6500 watt Honeywell.

I have pictures of mine but my IMG host site is stuck in a beta loop.

I bought this one.

The bumpers are welded to the others, it isn't a matter of the weld, the bumpers are not strong enough to hold the weight, the bumpers themselves tear. I would predict someone will get a slightly scuffed up Champion 3100 genny.

And someone else will have a severely scuffed up front end.

I know people do it successfully with major mods. I'll never trust the bumper after having a friend drag his bikes down the road one night on their way home.
