Hw50 wired to 30 amp trailer

Hello I got my HW50 PI in today and read through the instructions... I didn't see a provision for using it on 30 amp service. Can someone tell a semi-idiot who has needed tools to wire this. I searched and couldn't find it.
Seriously. I know a little about a lot...I didn't wanna mess this up.

It's kinda hard to really understand what exactly you are asking, but if it is using an adapter to hook your 50 amp RV into a 30 amp outlet, then according to the FAQ section of Progressive Industries........ yes, you are good to go.

Progressive Industries RV Surge and Electrical Protection industry lea

EMS-SURGE & VOLTAGE PROTECTION MODELS

Q: Should a Hardwired EMS be installed before or after the transfer switch?
A: A hardwired EMS should be installed prior to the transfer switch. The reason for this is most RV generators already have built-in voltage and frequency protection. If the EMS is installed after the transfer switch, this leaves the transfer switch vulnerable to power problems.

Q: Can I use an adapter and maintain full protection?
A: Yes. An adapter can be used and the RV will maintain full electrical and surge protection.

Q: Is there a difference in protection between the different EMS models?
A: No. All EMS's offer the same protection.

Q: Can I add a second remote display to the wired in models?
A: Yes, but only to the EMS-HW30C and EMS-HW50C models. An additional remote cannot be added to the LC-HW30 and LC-HW50 models.

No. It's a 30 amp service.

When you install a 50 in a 30 amp system isn't there an extra wire you install? A shunt or something....or is this rating just the duty cycle of the unit having nothing to do with the way it is wired?

I think I read on here there were special instructions for the use in 30 amp service...you know ...get the big one in case you move up

You need to put a jumper from line 1 to line 3 on the supply side only, nothing on the output of line 3. That way the the internal control will sense voltage on both input line.....supply needs to be 30 amps, 120 volts only.....line 2 should be the neutral....this is according to this instruction....

why would you get a 50 amp unit to install in a 30 amp trailer? Am I missing something here?

If you upgrade to 50 amp you will already have it. Looking down the road probably.
