Installed a Hornady Rapid Gun Locker

I think it's important to secure your stuff. Regardless of your views on guns, having a place to secure your valuables is important as well and you might find this useful.

Here is what I did. I installed:
Hornady 98190 RAPiD Safe AR Rifle Gunlocker with RFID Touch Free Entry

You can see it on Amazon here:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got this one because it "fit" almost exactly to the size I needed and of the name brand recognition and for the weight. It's about 55lbs.

I started by getting some half inch maple plywood and cut it to size and stained it.

I then screwed it down the center to the supporting wood and also along the sides and rear...

Under the locker in the back storage you can see the half inch supporting wood that runs under it. I used screws that would sink into the wood on top and drive deep enough to go into the half in support wood in the center.

This gun locker was "exactly" 42 inches and fit nicely through the opening.

I then swag bolted the locker down through the 1/2 plywood.

Nice and tight fit...

This won't stop a determined thief, but usually due to time, noise and inconvenience this will stop the opportunistic quick robbery. Got 9" of shelf space in front for storage and obscuring the obvious viewing. Pretty dark back there without the light. A thief would have to destroy the entire entertainment center to get it out of there. I guess at that point, it's an insurance claim.

What do you think? Has anyone done anything like this for their rig?

Nice job. Looks great. Might have to consider something like that myself.

Looks good, but if you have the ability to (looks like ya do), I’d put a false front so it looks like a trim piece. That way casual their won’t even notice it.. I’m a big fan of having things hidden in plain site. Used to have a fun cabinet setup in our closet that looked like part of the closet organizer.

Nice clean looking install but if someone breaks into your trailer, they probably just want that big TV above your safe. You might want to consider adding a panel in front of the safe to hide the fact that you have a single place to go for all those really valuable things you want to protect.

Looks good, I've thought about getting a smaller one of those safes and one for my truck.

My OCD would kick in with that unstained plywood showing, though. haha

If you needed to access the gun, how long would it take you to be ready to fire??

Not my only location. lol My hand gun is to get me to the long gun...

But with this particular safe, its rfid, punch key or lock. Its fairly quick access. But ultimately its more for secure storage vs rapid access.

lol! You cant see it unless you shine a flash light or as in this photo you are using a flash. I thought about it, but its just not visible with normal light. Plus im sure my wife will be stuffing “stuff” on the sides anyway.

That looks very good!

If you don't want to cover it you could glue a couple fake meters and some switches on it. Then it would just look like more RV "stuff" to most folks. A "Warning High Voltage" sticker wouldn't hurt either...

Sure thing. Its a safe to secure valuable items. Whatever that may be, as stated in original post.
