I had a two extra 2x4s laying around and put them in the bottom of the box. The wood protexts the floor nicely from the heavy sway bars etc... Also I keep all my black water elbows, fittings up there in a black trash bag out of the camper.

I have used this set up twice now and really like it.

question: I bought the tool box - 69/12/12.5 at Lowes. It bumps up against my wdh clamps. Because of that it is on an angle - about 2 inches off the frame by the trailer and the door side sits on the wdh hitch with enough room to still hook up the chains.
If I put a 2x4 under the trailer side and screw it down do you think I will be ok? Also the case lid for the batteries take up about and inch on 2 sides extra which I would like to use as storage. Is it ok to leave the lid off if I keep the battery in the battery case? Do I even need the battery case at all?

I'd leave the battery in the battery box if only to protect it. Try to cover the battery. You want to put the wood under the tool box? As like a spacer? Should be fine.

2x4 to level out should be no problem as long as you still have clearance to open the lid.
Re battery box, what I would think about would be leaving it in the box but not using the lid (if I'm reading your post correctly, that is what is taking up the extra space). Then use terminal covers to make sure you are protected from accidental shorts across the terminals.

1 shows the slant
2 shows the 2x4

Just did a tool box mod this week. Cut a slot in propane holder so i could slide it up by the hitch jack to gain room for a larger box.

Kept battery in its battery box

Size of tool box does cut down on turning radius which i didnt figure into my backing up into campaite thursday afternoon. Got too aggrrssive and cracked a tailight. It would have been a dumb attempt without losing the tailight tho so that was on me, not the mod.

Looks good. You've got a bigger box than some I've seen, so it makes sense that it had significant impact on turn radius. Oh well, sounds like you made it out without too much major damage.

Yes that is a large box and probably something I would have done too so I'm really glad you posted your experience - thanks!

How do you cover your propane tanks now and doesn't the new arrangement interfere with your w/d & anti-sway bar brackets?
