Interior Stove sparker

I have been thinking of moding the stove in our trailer to have asparker on it so that I would not have to look for the bbq lighter everytime I want to put something on the stove. This mod ended up costing me less than $50 to do. I went to WalMart and picked up 3 packages of BBQ spark ignitors. At $10 each, these packages come with two ignitors and the manual sparker. Only one of the ignitors is usable so that is why I purchased 3 of these. I also did not use the sparker that came with them but used an electronic one that will spark 3 leads. I had one of these laying around, but I think I have seen them for between $5 and $10. So total mod cost should be less than $50.

If anyone needs more information after looking at the pictures feel free to drop me a line.

Yes it is the one that uses the AA battery. Works great.

Looks like Walmart has the entire 3-sparker kit for $17. See here Walmart.com: Electric Ignitor Kit: Grills & Outdoor Cooking

I think I'll add one to my stove as well.

If anyone figures out how to put a sparker in the oven, let me know.

Yes! Lighting the oven is a PITA!

The only problem is I could not use those sparkers that are in the link. You will notice that the way I mounted the sparker (see my pictures in previous post), these sparkers you are showing wont mount. It is a totally different mount, but the actuall electronic part is the same as I used. The kits that I baught had 2 sparkers in them. One like in the link you provided and one that was different and as such able to mount on the side of the stand for the element.

Hope this helps.....

Chris

I bought the kit today and used the two long ones that came with the kit. They mounted just fine. I wasn't able to use the little short stubby one though. I'll go pickup an extra manual sparker kit to cannibalize for the third ceramic/electrode.

I mounted the electronic unit in the same place as yours. Works great there. I used a hole saw on my drill press to punch the hole for it.

I'll post some pics as to how I mounted them when I get it done.

I don't see why this unit wouldn't work. In mine, there's a little bracket that holds the pilot and thermocouple that has room for the electrode. Of course I'm referring to my little tiny oven. We don't plan to use our oven much so I didn't bother with it.

I'm sure other types/brands/models of ovens might be more of a challenge.

Here's how I mounted the electrodes that come with the Walmart $17 electronic ignitor kit. The only problem is it comes with only two of these long ones and one short stubby one that is of no use. So I went to the local home improvement store and picked up a piezo ignitor kit for $7 and cannibalized it for the identical electrode to install on the third burner.

So I've got about $25 or so in this project. Cindi's happy though.

One thing I found very interesting is that you have to align the tip of the electrode in the "sweet spot" for it to light. See my pic in the previous post. Right at the bottom of the two slots that kind of form a "V" is the best. I moved it around and it really needs to be just right to get immediate ignition consistently.

Looks good. I was concerned that the electrode would spark with the metal cover that goes on the top of the stove, that is why I used the other electrode. Glad it worked for you. I do know this much, it makes the wife happy that she doesn't have to find where I put the BBQ lighter anymore. :-)

Thanks Chris, and thanks for the idea!

Yeah, the holes in my top cover have lots of clearance. The electrodes are not near close enough to the cover to redirect the spark.

Yep, same here. Cindi's happy to not have to hunt for the grill lighter.

This post was good timing! I have electrodes on all three of my burners, but I noticed on our last trip that the one on the front burner was not sparking. I'm hoping for just a loose connection, but if that is not the case I now know that I can get replacement parts as Wal-Mart!!
