I'm also thinking about getting this fan. Anything to help cool the fridge. My fridge is in the slideout and vents out the side.

Do you actually have to cut into the 12v line for the light switch or does it come with a special 12v connection?

It has bare wire at the end. Look at how the bulb fits into the metal spring holder on your unit now. Just tuck the bare wire into one side of the spring holder that the bulb end sits in. The wire will be captured between the bulb and the holder giving you power.

But you have to be careful. If the bulb goes off when you close the door (as it should) you may not be getting power to the fan. You have to make sure that the fan either gets power all the time or that the power does not get shut off to the fan wire when the door is closed.

I haven't installed mine yet because I had brought a battery operated one last year and had not used it. It is amazing how much cooler the fan helps. I had to adjust the temp. twice so I can imagine w/ this new fan how much it will help.

There is +12 volts to the bulb all the time, it's the negative side that is switched. Therefore the fan gets it's negative from the cooling fins in the fridge. As long as your fridge is turned on the fan will run continuously. If turned off then there is no longer power to the light or the fan.

I pulled the female spade connector with the orange wire connected to it off the switch and slid the bare wire inside the loop and bent over the excess. Placed the connector back on and it works as described when attached with the alligator clip to the aluminum fins inside the fridge. It works very well, we've had nothing short of extreme heat this summer and the fridge has stayed cold.

Ed,
You mention adding a vent fan. Do you have any pictures or info on the installation and the type of fan. I have been considering one is the solar powered units. Thanks,

Ordered one of these on Thursday. Will pop it into the RV before the next outing.

I assume this is normal - but when we first picked up the RV - Fridge temps would creep up and we had it set on 5. After a that - it seems to have gotten more efficient and we have turned it down to 4..

Let's see if this helps turn it down again..

Very fast shipping. Good instructions with easy install (less than two minutes).

Just remove the frig light cover, slide the fan bare wire into the 12v female blade connector going to the switch on the frig light, and attach the fan grounding clip to the bare metal fins inside frig. Fan will run whenever the frig is turned on, is quiet and easy to move around into different positions.

I've had one for a few months now but only been on 1 trip with the fan. Can anyone who has one of these tell me how they keep it in place. I put the alligator clip on the cooling fin and put the fan so it was resting on the shelf but while travelling the clip keeps coming off and the fan falls flat.

I bought one and now I can barely keep the temp above freezing in the frig portion even with the sensor lowered all the way! Might have to disconnect it after cool down.

I guess the clip you have is weak - try playing with it to see if you can give it more bite somehow. Or try to add a layer to the fin, like a dime or something so the clip has more to hang on to.

Mine stays put, never moved.

Good luck

I put double stick 2 sided tape on mine, cut the length of the fan frame, and then split the tape lengthwise down the middle; then stuck half on each of the flat edges, top and bottom. Then, in order to make it fit flat, i wedged the clip in between the fins, it fits in there tight enough to provide a good ground without the need to clamp it. Then just stick it on the fins- I stuck mine centered at the top. Only time will tell if this will stay put when cold and frosty, but it seems to be stuck on there pretty well now! Randy

Received an email from the seller today and he also said that the clip may be weak. He offered to send a replacement but I said that I would like to take additional trips to see if there is still a problem. If there is, I will contact him for a replacement. Very responsive and great customer service.
