Just ordered my TST TPMS system
Well,
After looking around at several systems, I decided on the Truck Systems Technologies 507RV starter system. Has 4 sensors and the monitor which can be windshield or dash mounted. The sensors have user replaceable batteries and only weigh 12.7 grams each. They say tyou do not need steel stems but I am taking my wheels in and getting steel stems, nitrogen again and a wheel balancing. The system was reasonably priced at $259.00 and get this, free shipping to Canada.

System works great, had it for a year now, easy to use and so far no issues with it.

Using the 507 on our MN to Louisiana trip. It's working great! I did mount steel stems.

Whats the weight of these things? is there a concern or need to re-balance the tires? I've been looking at the Dill 1504 system and there install manual say's to balance the wheel before installing on the vehicle.

The TST 507RV systems sensors do not require steel valve stems. I put them on my TT and TV and did not notice any impact on the tire shake due to out of balance. I am sure a balance machine may catch the difference but I did not. I will never tow anything without the sensors installed. First trip with it and I was glad I had it due to piece of metal puncturing the TT tire 10 miles from home. I would not have noticed the low tire without the alarm!

The minimum weight of the sensors compared to the overall weight of the wheel and tire should not make a big difference in the wheel balancing, but as a precaution I did have my wheels balanced with the sensors installed.
But, the amount of weight sitting on the end of the valve stem is significant compared to a standard valve cap. I have read on another forum that the centrifugal force of the wheel turning at speed will force the valve stem to bend over......the OP of that thread showed pictures of the paint rubbing off of his wheels where the sensors was rubbing. That is a lot of bend in the valve stem, and may eventually lead to failure. Metal valve stems alleviate that problem.

True if the force was bending the stems that much it would fail sooner than later. I was concerned about the weight myself and called the company and talked to Don about the issue, he assured me that the 507 sensor weighed less than their other models and that it should not create any issues. With that being said, I will change to metal valve stems when the tires are changed.
This is the first year for the tires on the TT as the dealer replaced them at 11 months and 29 days after purchase due to sidewall cracking. I am still researching tire replacements brands and size. Heck the spare was a better quality tire than the other 4, the reason I say that is the sensors showed the 3 replacements, 4th was damaged by road debris, the spare actually stayed closer to cold psi and lower temp and just looked beefier. The dealer got the 4 replacement tires from the manufacturer and then looked at the spare and traded it with another trailer on the lot.
So yes I agree the metal stems would be better...ask my DW, if any can go overboard, I will. She thought the TPMS was overboard until the alarm saved the trip!

I put the TST system on my TT simply because I had a blowout a few years ago and drove for about 5 miles before some good hearted motorist told me.
I had metal valve stems installed and had the tires balanced. Some of the weights are pretty big. The TT isn't here or I'd tell you just how much weight was used.
I'm sure some of the weight was in the valve stems but some is in the sensor, 12.7 grams = .44 oz

Well my system showed up yesterday and initial observations are as follows. It is very well made and I really like the window mount. The wheel sensors are not light, 12.7 grams is a fair amout of weight when you actually have it in your hand. ENough so I immediately decided the decision to have the metal valve stems installed and tires balanced was not optional but required as I could easily see the rubber valve stems bending over at 60 mph and some pretty severe vibrations being induced. So I will take my wheels in 2 at a time and get the steel stems, fresh nitrogen fill and balancing done prior to our first outing this summer.

Just a suggestion, when you take the tires/wheels in to be balanced, ask about 'bead balancing'. Much better than putting those corrosive lead weights on your nice aluminum rims.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will indeed check into it.

It's to bad you have change out the stems, you could of purchased internal mounting unites that would also monitor heat. Any chance you can return then?
