Lack of mods

Seems like everyone has quit making mods or they are just not posting any pictures. What gives?

As the gamers say, "RL (Real Life) got in the way"
This fall the next round of "heavy mods" will start.

Minor mods already done:

Hard Start Capacitor
Hardwired my Franks Autotransformer with in and out volt/ammeters.
Cleaned and purged the gray and black tanks.
Awning Remote Control
Awning Lighting

Planned mods this fall:

Solar fridge cooler
Reseal all cargo doors
Remove all cargo door frames and re-install with Butyl Rubber tape.
Drop the Pin Box Cover and check cross beam for cracks.

So you're through camping for the year? Purging the holding tanks, etc.

The Gray tank got a dose of bacon grease in July. I am getting it ready for the Mid September 10 day "Jaunt" through the Northeast. Camping in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and down through New York.

Then the "Big Push" for the January trip South to the Keys (assuming DW knee surgery goes well). If not then we will be done for the season after September.

Hope everything goes great with DW's surgery. Sister in law had one two yrs ago and recovered completely and went back to work in 2 months and she was 70 yrs old.

First mod was to actually purchase the camper!!!!! [check]

So far we've:
* added storage box on the toy hauler deck
* replaced interior incandescent light bulbs with LEDs [followed by replacing the single-switch light fixtures with dual-switch fixtures]
* added screened door
* added shelving over the stove
* added BAL leveler system
* installed battery lock mechanism
* added gray water tank
* bought road safety warning triangles

On the short list:
* shower canopy
* hardwired surge protector
* additional removable table
* replace dinette table with smaller/lighter table
* whatever else I can come up with (thank you to everyone who posts wonderful suggestions!!!!)

We also are busy modding our other toys:
* tint for the Shelby
* new rear-end for the Raptor
* still need to finish the interior of the electric BMW
* still need to paint the bathrooms
* etc etc

I don't think the lists will ever stop growing!!!!

Once a season I do a complete cleaning of the holding tanks.
This involves empty the tanks normally using clear elbow.
Then:

Black Tank:

1) Flush with the Turbo Flush for 30 minutes until nothing but clear water comes out.
2) Close the tank valve and add 1 half quart of RV-Digest-It to the Black Tank
3) I then fill the tank till I can see water through the toilet valve.
4) Let sit for 1 full week
5) Dump and Turbo Flush for 30 minutes or until water runs clear
6) Verify all sensors working properly

Gray Tank:

1) Back Flush with the clear elbow with flush valve for 30 minutes until nothing but clear water comes out.
2) Close the tank valve and add the rest of the half quart of RV-Digest-It to the GRAY Tank
3) I then fill the tank till I can see water through the SHOWER pan drain.
4) Let sit for 1 full week
5) Dump and Back Flush for 30 minutes or until water runs clear
6) Verify all sensors working properly

My normal dump procedure:
Dump using Black first then gray.

Black: Dump and Turbo Flush till clear; Close valve; Add 1 CAP full of Calgon Water Softener and 1 CAP full Laundry Soap (WITHOUT fabric softener in it) - Fabric Softener is liquid WAX which will ruin your sensors. Then I add about 4 gallons of water.

Gray: Dump; Close valve; Add 1 CAP full of Calgon Water Softener and 1 CAP full Laundry Soap (WITHOUT fabric softener in it) - Fabric Softener is liquid WAX which will ruin your sensors. Then I add about 1 gallon of water.

ADD NOTHING ELSE - Any tank "deodorizer" will GEL the water softener and you will have a mess on your hands. If you do this every time you dump you will have perfectly clean tanks with no odor and your sensors should work just fine.

It is a poop tank,I dont care if they are (Perfectly) clean,I will not be eating around them. The sensors never worked correct when they were (New) so I am going to use Fab softner (Wax) in my tanks and I like to use our R/V instead of letting it (Sit) for (1) full week while it is (Digesting) the Poo. Sorry,I have a opinion & method also. Youroo!!

The sensors are a joke even on the fresh water tank. We've had 4 trailers with them and none of them have been accurate. In my mind, they are just a very rough estimate of what's in the tanks. We empty the black tank once a week and flush it for 30-45 minutes. When we break camp, emptying the black tank is 1st on the list, then the gray tanks, then start the flushing of the black tank and let it run while we are getting everything else packed, hooked up and ready to go. The very last thing done is turn the flusher off, close the black tank, stow the slinky and the flush hose(XHose), put Calgon, soap & bleach with 4 full bowl flushes of water down the toilet, check all the lights and go. If the sensors read full or empty is of no concern, just an aggravation. I personnally wouldn't spend 5˘ for the best sensors and spend time taking the underbelly down to get to them. Just not worth the effort for the results.

Thanks for the response on the tank cleaning. I will keep that in mind before I winterize this season. Which will be interesting seeing as I never have winterized a trailer before.

Neil,

Obviously my experience with this has been very different than yours.
I am quite happy with the OEM monitor and the upgraded Horst probes.

Lou, I have no problem with the monitor, it's the readings that are goofy. I just don't worry about them and even tho' I have the time and $ to change them, I would rather read a book than waste the time on changing the probes. Camped for years without having a monitor and got along real well. Even tho' it normally bugs the heck out of me to have something not working properly, the tank probes are the exception. Also, even when the trailer was brand new, and nothing but water had been in the tanks, they were inaccurate. Dealer left the dump valves open and the caps off when we picked it up and after driving home, all 3 tanks still read 1/3 and had nothing in them. Left the valves open and caps off for 3 days and still got the 1/3 readings. So... That's why I ignore them entirely.

We are so happy with the new Surveyor there isn't much I want to do but short list would be:
Install speakers over the bed for watching movies on TV.
Build a step platform to go under the fold out steps
Build cutting board stove cover for outside kitchen two burner stove top.
Build a storage cradle for our Espresso / Latte machine
Wine rack under bed storage
Install awning lights and hard wire to 12 volt system

Install 12 foot gate in fence so I can get this monster out of sight.
