3 yrs ago I bought a motor and the spring end for a power awning on ebay for $75 and carry them in the trailer along with the emergency strap.

I have a solution for that: I call it a wiz jug. Sold at Cabela's and probably any other outdoor store. We don't leave on a road trip without them as our boy always tends to pound his Gatorade too fast!
Albeit I don't use it very often for fireside relief, it does work nice in (and along with) a tight pinch.

I think I will just make a strap (or order one now from Dometic) if I need to roll it up manually to get it home. I can always get the parts later if I need them.

I will be putting a kill switch in the 12VDC power line just as a safeguard. Hate for someones garage door opener to run my awning out.

Herk, I have been talking about doing this with our 5'er as well. You never know if a little kid will get curious and hit one of those rocker switches. Can you give us a more detail and maybe some pics as to how and where you placed the kill switch(es)? Thanks.
P.S. I think from a safety perspective this should be done at the factory.

I have been thinking on the power to the remote unit and although I am not quite sure yet where anything is going to be mounted, if I can do what I want I will be putting a DPDT center off switch in the cct. With that I will have a center off and then can select either interior or remote awning operation.

That's what I was thinking
The switch has to be at the junction of manual switch
Wires and remote wires.

Yep, thats what I am thinking as well. I need to get out to the trailer and look at the FR control panel and see if there is enough room to add another switch that looks like the factory ones as I like keeping things looking factory.

I do not think that should be an issue at all.
One more thing I am thinking is to add an interlock relay that totally disables the whole deal when the trailer is plugged into the truck. That way me being the scatter brain I can be sometimes, I will not have to worry and wonder if I put the switch in disable position prior to breaking camp. Probably over thinking this but it is fun.

Lou, in looking at my strap that Dometic included, it is no more than one of these, Intersource Enterprises - Awning Hooks - D16-170 - Awning Accessories - Camping World with a strap attached. Probably a lot cheaper than what Dometic would charge for a new one.
There are also a few sellers on eBay, Misc Awning Parts Acc items in awning strap store on eBay!
And back to the OP, turbo this is such an innovative mod, wow!! I'm really electrically phobic, but to me this convenience is definitely worth the risk! Thanks for sharing.

Your welcome Frank, I do try to be ahead of my own curve

If there was a Modification of the month award, I believe this one would be the winner IMO. I know I would vote for it.
