Question LED bulbs??

I have recently been TRYING to replace the 921 bulbs in my camper. They are so hot, that they are melting the plastic lens covers!!!
My problem that I came across is that I have 3 times now ordered replacement bulbs off of e bay- (I am a cheapskate) and the numbers describing them are very confusing and might as well be in FRENCH!! For example: T-10 194 921 W5W 12 SMD 50 50 LED warm white landscaping bulb. I get SOME of those numbers- the T-10 194 921 12 SMD part even warm white as opposed to white, but what is W5W, 50 50, or on another bulb I got 1210. I think W5W means how many actual led's are on a bulb. These do not however state how bright they actually are, unless I am missing something.
The first bulbs I ordered were bright enough, but white. The second bulbs were yellowish and unacceptably VERY dim. The third bulbs were brighter, but still not bright enough. Color was good. Is this just a CRAPSHOOT or WHAT??? Must I just keep trying until I finally find an acceptable solution? The Chinese manufacturers are laughing
Anybody ELSE out there going through this??? Randy

I too have this issue. Bought some from china and they are 1/2 as bright as I need them to be.
What is a reasonably good warm white LED solution for the 921 bulb?

Boat/RV/Other Miniature Wedge Base Bulbs | Boat/RV/Other LED Replacement Bulbs | Boat, RV, and Other Lighting | Super Bright LEDs

Accurate color descriptions. Warm white is very close to OE bulbs.
The "Relative Intensity" rating is accurate too. 5 bulbs lit in description is very close to OE bulbs.

Yes they seem spendy - How much have you saved by getting lights that you can't use or that don't work?

Cool Bright White Wedge Base LED Retrofit Light

I bought 5 of these for 4 lights (the one over the kitchen sink takes 2 bulbs). They are good for reading although we have a Nook & Kindle Paperwhite plus the sofa lights are indirect. If you want warmer (yellow vs white) bulbs they are available too. It has 24 LED's per bulb & they are a bit $$.

There are 5 more lights in the TT which take 2 bulbs each but we don't use them except for the bathroom & it is not on much.

The standard incandescent #921 bulb produces about 260 lumens of light. Lumens are what you should be looking at in the specs to determine brightness. If they don't give an actual number for lumens, then I would be a little leery of buying them.

This might help:

example: T-10 194 921 W5W 12 SMD 50 50 LED warm white landscaping bulb.

T-10 194 921 W5W--- This describes the base and the bulb envelope (the glass if it were an incandescent bulb). W5W has nothing to do with the wattage.

12 SMD 50 50 LED. ---- this describes how many LEDs are in the assembly and then their size. In this case there are 12 LEDs. The 5050 is length and width of each LED, 5.0 mm in each direction here. Or about a 1/4 inch.

warm white landscaping bulb. --- warm white refers to the light output in degree Kelvins. With no exact figure given it is hard to tell what the color will really be.
This site explains it better than I can
LED Light Bulb Color Temperature Explained

The LEDs I have gotten off eBay with no Kelvin temperature given are all over the place when it comes to the color of the light.

I hope this helps.

Thanks! You guys rock! With kzo8hs's info, and thanks to Bob for that lumens info on a 921 bulb, I can now go to the e bay china bulbs and just MAYBE find a reasonable replacement bulb. I have been buying them in lots of 10 for around 23.00/10. Free shipping. I'll let U know what I come up with. Randy

The LED bulbs that I bought on ebay just didn't last. The wire connections to the LEDs were not very robust. I have had much better luck with those that I bought from RVLEDBulbs.com - RV LED Bulbs, RV LED Lights and Light Accessories. They list detailed specs and only carry quality bulbs. After installing my first 10, I ordered 10 more

They are more expensive than ebay, but you can get a 10% discount by using the code "FORUM" when checking out.

I bought these after buying and trying A LOT of cheap LED lights.
They have eighteen 5050 LEDs. 288 lumens. Cool white, and warm white.

Use foil tape as a reflector. (This was a practice application)

And this is the very bright, omnidirectional light. (Taken during daytime!)

Amazon has them from several stores.

I bought two different kinds of the Cobb style bulbs and was not happy with either. One had a blue tint and the other was just not bright. So I ordered these off of Ebay and have been very happy with them. Pics do not do them justice. The only thing is that is you install them and they don't come on, take it out and turn the blade over as they have a polarity to them.
