LED strips under the outdoor steps

I just got the "bright" idea to install some led light strips under the fold out outdoor steps. A strip under each step to light them up. I think it would look nice but also be a safety thing. We don't have a porch light and the awning lights are a bit bright to keep on at night when we are not there. This way we can keep the step lights on so when we get back we can see them clearly.

Thoughts?

Should be pretty simple of a mod. We do have the under trailer leds but they are blue.

IDK. Just an idea that popped into me head.

It does seem like a neat idea but my concern would keeping the wires from getting caught up in the steps as they deploy. Most times power can be run with a bit of effort from many places, even right from the battery.

I just purchased a solar powered motion sensing light and used double sided tape to put it next to the door. No wires and no safety issues.

I added 12in LEDs under our steps. We have 2 doors and the master door is right at the power center so I pulled a wire off the bed room light, added a switch, and stuck the strip to the frame. Ran a wire set down the frame in a split loom to the back door, light to frame and done. Steps don't come close to wire. Will look for some pics.

I added 2x 24 inch LED strips to my entry door. One at the bottom just below the door and the other under the door's rain gutter(?). I connected the wire to the LED step light which is at the lower right of the door. I drilled a small hole in the plastic trim where the steps fold into the side of the trailer to connect the bottom strip. Then I ran 18 gauge speaker wire behind the plastic trim strip that goes up the right side of the door to connect the two light strips. If you look closely at the right top you can see the wires connected to the top light.

Having built steps from PTL the original LED step light did not light the steps very well. Photos were taken with 2 different cameras.

Led lights under steps

My 274 dnh came with under steps led lights. They are not on the steps but at the edge of under carriage. Problem was they only worked when under awning lights were on, so I had a seperate switch added for only the steps works great and I don’t piss my neighbors off by having awning lights on all night!
They are blue and just enough to see the steps at night time.

I have the silly little light on the skirting like Scrapper has in his bottom picture. (Not the added led the other one). Since it has its own switch I was going to add an led light to the underside of the floor. Hoping to light up the steps from above and the light would not be shining at you when you come toward the steps.

I picked up one of these for that purpose.

I use low voltage Christmas light strips and put them away when travelling. Easy to hookup and replace if they are damaged. Also, handy if you need to look under the trailer for items that end up hiding under the TT late at night.

Our Grey Wolf 25RL came with led lights under the step. You could fine the part number for them and use them.

I added led lights to the underside of each step. They are just enough light to see each step, but not be annoyingly bright to other campers.

They are controlled by a rocker switch in the control panel and also by two momentary push button switches, one in the control panel and one outside by the steps.

Pushing the momentary switch activates a timer that turns the lights on for 3 minutes. Just enough time to get in or out of the camper without having to leave the lights on.

Like others, our Cruise Lite came with LED lights on the frame under the stairs. I have tow issues with ours, first is being on the same switch as the awning - going to have to get it its on switch. The second thing is it's REALLY BRIGHT! If you're sitting under the awning and look at the door it's almost blinding. Going to have to dim that down somehow.

If you can find a place to mount it, one of these will work. I used one for our awning LEDs
