We tried them and DW didn't like the blue light, so I took them all out of the pancake lights and left the vertical ones. So I guess I should have gotten the yellow or the soft. Don't really know what to get to match the color of the incandesant.

I believe you would want the ones described as "warm white", soft like incandescent

Thanks, trying to find a 36 led flat one like the ones I had only in "Warm white". No luck so far, at least not at a reasonable price. I need 10 of them.

no reverse bias problems with an incandescent bulb though.

I forgot to mention, in the first batch of LED lights I installed, one fixture was wired backwards. the light promptly smoked and burned a bit. thankfully it wad only one of six fixtures.
Yes, they can be blown up reverse biased. I think it is higher than 12 volts though. I am sure it depends on the LED.

Ok folks,
first of all thanks to all for the educational input....so here's an update.
Went to Lowe's and found this little but very expensive, little bugger ... It worked ! No smoke, no blowing of fuses... Although expensive it must be a good to best brand...

My LED pads are much brighter; yet draw only 1/10th of the power.
They were also pretty cheap and have lasted almost 3 years now.

The light on the left is the original and the right it's the LED , personally I think the LED is not bright.

You can use one of the free ipad/ipod apps like light meter or light meter to measure the lumen of the bulbs installed.

They are quite usefull.

No, they come with wedge connectors. They just plug right in. The hardest part was finding a reliable way to fasten those bright pads to the fixtures. I used a combination of "extreme" Velcro and zip ties.

My LEDs are brighter than the original 921 lights.

I feel like a total fool, but than again I am new to this, although I do have a little mechanical skills in me!!!
Guess what? I bought the wrong LED replacement . I was putting in 194 (which goes on the outside). The inside are 921.....
I do appreciate everyone's comments throughout this little concern since the beginning of the trend !!! Thank you....

I took Herk's advice and went with these pads in a couple places, and some of the pancake ones over the bed. Very happy with them.

When looking at the fixture from the side, at times the LED's dont look at bright. they are somewhat directional, throwing their light down, which is of course where you need it. for example, over our kitchen island they offer more light than the original bulbs.

in the bedroom, I wanted less light over the bed, and the pancake style were perfect, they are more like a soft reading lamp now.
