LED,Warm White (Comparisons to Standard White & Incandescents)

Did some inside lighting work in my coach recently.
Installed Warm White (3000~3500k) LED's to replace the cool white ones I originally installed (HATED COOL WHITE!). My coach no longer feels like I'm living in the laundry room!

I thought members might want to see the difference between White, Warm, & Incandescent).

1: Cool/Standard LED on left vs Warm LED on right.
2: Incandescent left, Warm LED on right.
3: Incandescent left, Warm LED on right.
4: Size Comparison
5: Finished product (Red up front for night driving)

Nice comparison! My preference is for the 3500k too. What were the kalvins on the previous ones you installed? For anyone else looking to put in LED's it is much safer to look at the Kalvins rather than a label of "cool" or "warm". I've purchased LED's before that are listed as "cool" but have kalvins of 3500. Those others look very close to the 5000k but that can be a tricky thing to judge. The 5000k lights are indeed a shock on the eyes if you are not used to that. We changed over everything in my building at work to 5000k and it took a couple of months of adjustment. I have never heard so many complaints in my life. After the adjustment period we installed a couple of the old 2700k lamps as a test right next to the 5000k to give people a comparison and most everyone commented that they looked like they were cigarette smoke stained and were glad to have the lights we were using.

I am in the process of switching mine over to led. What would the 6500k onesbe classified as? When I bought them they just said white. I bought two to start with and installed them and now have the other 16 to install. The first two that I bought are very white and do not seem as bright as the older taillight bulbs that were in the camper.

Sorry, I dont have the original packaging or kelvin temps. I do remember the original add made no mention of color temp only "white" which turned out to be more "blue" when I installed them.
I know what you mean about judging light temps with a photo however reading is much easier. It was harsh under white/blue LED, Difficult under incandescent, but these new lights are great so far on my eyes...

With warm LED's the coach feels like a home

See Attached light to kelvin chart.

I bet 6500K Would be pretty close to what I'm uninstalling now. More Blue/White with zero warmth. You dont start seeing warmth in light until you get below 4000K

6500k. Wow. That would be harsh.

A higher number kalvin will not necessarily give you a brighter bulb. More lumens translate to a brighter bulb.

I put 5000k lamps in my home and the entire family got headaches. We switched to 3500k and the headaches went away and all were happy. At the job where we have 10 & -11 ft ceilings and large rooms the 5000k lamps are great. I am wondering if ceiling height and room size have a way of dissipating the personal ill effects of the higher Kalvin. My camper came with LED's and they are 3500. The lumens and kalvin really work well in the confined area of my camper.

I am curious when you have purchased leds have you had any choice as to how many lumens are in your bulbs? How long have you tolerated the 6500 before changing them out?

I found that I couldn't exist in 6000k+. When I ordered my 1st batch of 10 White LED's on ebay (more Blue/White), I thought it would be okay. It looked brighter but I found myself actually changing where I hung out in my coach. I started sitting/reading more in the bedroom (standard incandescent lamps) and the sight of those white lights actually made me start turning on the over couch & nook lamps (incandescent) in a desperate attempt to add warm into the room.

You never think much about light temperatures until your forced to live in one that is not natural. I used to think those SunRise Lamps were a scam but now I think I was simply underestimating how important light and more importantly "Light Temprature" is to our health, well being, and maybe even sanity.

IMHO if your installing/installed White/Bluish LED lamps in a living area of your RV/Trailer, cut your losses now, and buy warm LED's instead.

When you order LEDs try to order by Kelvins and not the words "White" or "Warm White". The first few I ordered on eBay a few years ago didn't state the temperature of the lamps. They ended up being blue white range and were hard on the eyes. I finally found "warm white" again with no temperature stated and these ended up being too yellow. I could use them for the porch light to keep the bugs away. You need to know temperature in Kelvins and output in Lumens.

Higher # HIDs

The higher the number, the less light is produced...when says they have 14K's that means they can't see a darn thing except purple...a 4300K bulb is about as bright as you can get on the open market..the 2007 Covette came with 4300K, a 5000K will give you less light, but a blue tint..that is what I have in all out low beam headlights..not having the correct projector lense, you lose some light direction..just aim the close to the ground...putting another set of 5000K in the high beams soon..all four come on at one time..total of 20,000K..

Thanks,

I love to see the pictures, I have been wanting to switch over. I was holding back because of to many options(K's and flat or round style) and the prices are to great to do trial and error.
Thanks for all the input, it helps

Just so everyone is clear 3000K LED's are still not perfect replacements. The light is warmish but not true warm. If you look at the paper example photo in the 1st post, you'll notice a slight greenish tinge to the light (probably the yellow lense or film the manufacturer is still not blocking enough blue light).

You'll need to shop for 2500-2700k for almost identical to incandescent performance but Im not convinced it exists in dome light applications yet.

Is there a Part Number for that LED and approx what did you pay. I have the same fixtures and the std incandescents seem to be discoloring the sockets due to heat.

Thanks
