Leveling board for cooking on picnic table
One of the problems I have in cooking with a stove on a picnic table is getting the stove level. Especially an issue when trying to fry pancakes, omlets and such. Here is my solution. It is a solid oak board about 14" x 24" with feet installed on each corner.
I put a 1/4" threaded insert in each corner and put in 1/4 " thread bolts with feet already attaced from ACO hardware store. To make it easier to turn the bolts I threaded on wire nut.
Simple and effective:

Great idea! Ever think of putting a set of those camper levels along 2 sides for ease in leveling?

But you do know the only way to "trully" level something is with three points not four ....... right?

As I told B in a pm, have you ever been to a restaurant or a bar and had a wobbly four legged table?
Seems no matter hard you try you cant get it to level properly.

So would the "correct" way be to put two legs on one end, and the third on the opposite end? I agree it would be easier to level that way, but would it support a for legged appliance setting on it, or would it be tipsy on the end with one leg in this case?

The four bolts will work great as they are all adjustable. On a rigid stool, three points of contact will always sit flat (not necessarily level).
2000 Cherokee, LEDs, solar, inverter, etc. '07 Tundra 5.7L DC-LB, modded as well.

That's how I understand it. I like the 4 adjustable feet for stability and being able to achieve "level enough".

Technically if the item placed on a "three legged stand" or table was evenly "weighted" front to rear and side to side it would be fine.
Something that was heavy one end or the other or heavy front or back might be an issue.

About 20 years ago, I installed four 3/8" nut-serts in my old Coleman stove to level it on picnic tables.
Worked fine, but wouldn't fit back in the area where I stored it w/o removing the carriage bolts! Went back to rocks. LOL.
Sometimes the best laid plans.......

My immediate thought was a transit... They have to be level and easily done so... They have THREE legs.

I think for this application the four legged board is the correct design.

With a transit, like a photographer's tripod, the load is centered. Also, leveling a tripod IS easier. But for the OP, the 4 bolt design is best.

Very neat idea. I have always used wood shims to level mine up. Very easy to slide under the stoves and they stay put. If they get dirty, they become kindling.
