True story. most are a CH751 key. My last travel trailer was an Eclipse Attitude and the storage compartment keys from it work on my Forest River Grey Wol 19rr.

Just bought a 2013 Rockwood 2306, the dealer said the compartment keys are standard issue.

My key works on my father-in-laws Puma compartment.

you can buy different ones at http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/fil...og/N-hz2?xi=xi or here >>Illinois Lock Company :: CAM Locks
and have your own "different" set of keys

Then sell you old ones on ebay! WIN WIN !

Try the www.ch751.com web site.
I got my new locks and hardware there.

That lock set is used on EVERY keyed compartment in the RV world for some unearthly reason.

Then the doors get 2 keys; one for the door latch and a different one for the deadbolt. Oh, and then the shower door gets another totally different one.

Ok I think I can top that HERK
front basement and side basement doors are ch751.
Entry door has two different keys as you suggested
my outside tv cubby has a 2 sided cut key
my outside kitchen uses the ch751 key
the outside grill uses the ch751
the electrical cord storage door uses the 2 sided cut key
And the cooking utensil draw uses ch751

In the dark if you don't remember which door is what key it YOU could have issues! Oh and to many coors lights !

I replaced my storage door locks and outside shower lock on current and previous TTs with these from J R Products on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/JR-Products-00...522318&sr=8-16

They come in various lengths (5/8", 1", etc) for different thickness doors. They have a shield over the key hole to keep out the dirt and rain. And the key is cut the same on both sides so it inserts either way. Overall they're a pretty solid lock at a reasonable price.

Sure, anyone else with J R Products locks will have the same key. But you're far less likely to run into someone with one of these keys than you are with CH751 locks.

What is measured to determine the correct lock length? Is it from the lenght of the shaft?

I bought my locks from Lowe's, they have two different cylinder sizes you the longer of the two and you will need to make the hole a little bit larger to except this cylinder.

I lost my camper keys last year so I went to my neighborhood locksmith to get new ones made. The only key he couldn't reproduce is the key for the outside shower. Said I had to get that one from the dealer. I'm still dumbfounded that I even NEED a key for the outside shower.

I understand how you feel about the out side shower having a lock, however it keeps others from tampering with it and maybe needing parts for there own and the other thing is that it keeps the little door secure while towing. You just don't know what things get into peoples heads these days.
If you take note all exterior doors and hatchs have some kind lock system that are on the sides of a camper.

The locks are cheap, they are nothing but furniture locks with a cover over the key way to keep dirt out of them, they do not have pins in them they have a flate disc and are easy to damage with one strike in the key way with any thing that will fit in side.

So wouldn't it make more sense to not have a lock at all on the outside shower and just go with a latch? If they can be broken into so easily, I'd vote for having something that would sustain the least amount of damage and subsequently, money, if someone decides to break into it. And we've never had to worry about anyone tampering with our water, jacks, etc. when we're camping. I'm not going to say we're lucky, just have never heard of it in our part of the country.

Our new Surveyor has the slam? type storage compartments like the ones on most motorhomes. Any replacements for those locks?

We replaced all of our locks with combination locks. Love them and don't have to fumble for keys.

You can change out the lock style and put in the butterfly style with no lock. Fyi
