making wasted space usable

our trailer is the Micro Lite 25KS, a twin to the Mini Lite 2503S,.....the kitchen slideout travels over the wheel well that sticks above the trailer floor,....because of the wheel well, Forest River leaves the whole area under the kitchen empty, ...been wanting to do something with that area ever since we got this trailer,.....the photos show the results, the back half is where the wheel well is and all I could add there is that swing down drawer, doesn't add a lot, but its better than nothing,....the front half is completely empty, so you can see the drawer that I was able to make and install,...I don't have a "before" photo, but those were just blanked off panels,.....when a mod turns out good, it gives a lot of satisfaction,....those two drawers just add a little more space for one of us to carry more stuff................shes happy

Well, you've got the DW interested. I'm better with mechanical than wood, but.....

I'm assuming you cut out the existing panel and used it for the "drawer front" and therefore they close "flush" rather than overlapping like the built-in doors/drawer fronts?

yes, originally those were inset panels(very thin paneling) , I removed them and cut to fit the drawer fronts and glued them on,....the drawers close fit inside the wood framework, they don't overlap the opening like a regular drawer front would

Nice job fella10. We have a 2011 Rockwood MiniLite etc 181 (a lot smaller than your rig) and needed space for "stuff" like mosquito dope, sunscreen, bottle opener, playing cards, napkins, etc. The end cabinet opposite the door next to the dinette/murphy bed was a logical place to add some shelves. I had to remove the 1/8" veneer that was on it. Then I built the shelves and attached them to a piece of 1/4" plywood and put the whole thing back in place. Like you I don't have a before photo, but you can imagine a blank end-cap with nothing but the speaker in it.

I've done some things like that in our rig and it makes me wonder why consumers are the ones unlocking the untapped real estate. Certainly the manufacturer should be able to handle some of this.

I agree, especially with an item like the larger drawer, .......that's so much unused space, and at the factory while they're putting the unit together, to add something like that is so much easier for them and the benefit to the customer is large,....sure it would add a few dollars to the invoice(every thing does), but not nearly as much as it cost me in time, money and aggravation....... having to figure how to do, buying the material, making it, and then installing it in the limited space thru that opening laying on my back, side, and even stomach and at times even doubting that it would ever work correctly ....

oh well, that one is done now, so its time to move on to the next one,....with a trailer and a wife, there is always a next one....................

You all did a bang up job on the mods! The way I look at it is if FR filled in all these tiny nooks and crannies we would have no way to make our rigs "custom. They would all be cookie cutter boxes

I cut the treads and installed piano hinges on my Sons steps to utilize storage underneath.

I like this mod, I'm thinking shoe storage.
