Mattress needs Support
To make the space under the mattress useable for my wife I installed a piece of hardwood flooring on a hinge. When you pick up the mattress aided by a small gas cylinder(in our Surveyor SP293) the leg swings into place, slide the leg ahead and it slides along the wood rail on top of the divider and the leg folds down (hinged) with the mattress. This makes the space very useful.

Good idea. My problem with the 2604SS was if I touched the bed it raised up. I installed a window latch to keep it closed, works great I flip the latch and the bed raises.

Walke, great mod, easy simple fix.

I guess I am not understanding why the space was not useable before?? Was it just that the charged gas lift cylinders were no longer supporting the bed?

If you look at the fine print on the side of the existing lift cylinders you can plug the part number into a google search. Once you find the manufacturer, you can look at the cylinders in the same size range and pick a replacement 2 sizes bigger. I changed my 80# cylinders out for 120# cylinders and have no problem holding the dressed out bed with a 4" memory foam topper i nthe raised position.

I got the cylinders for $20 ea off of e-bay once I knew the size I needed.

did not know you could change out these cylinders for something stronger. Looks like this one is on my list as ours worked fine until we put the 3" memory foam topper on the bed. Drives my wife nuts that she cannot just raise it anymore. And speaking of foam toppers, we have a cheap mattress in our trailer and I cannot believe just how comfy these memory foam toppers make the bed. We both find it a lot more comfy than our mattress in our house and I would highly recommend them to anyone
