Modifications to a 34RL Work and Play.

Wife and I have been spending some time sprucing up our rig, (and doing a fair amount of camping as well.)

Last night we worked on installing a second roof AC unit in the front bedroom.

Our's is a 50amp unit, but it was not pre-wired for a second AC. This meant running the wire would be the biggest challenge of the job. I was going to go under the rig, and feed it up through the corner cap, wife suggested pulling the cap trim and see if there was access all the way back, from there. Turned out to be a good idea and that is what we did. (sorry for the bad pictures, sun was in the exact wrong spot.)

In these pictures you might see we ran (2) wires. One is for the A/C unit we are adding, the other is for an additional outlet, to be installed in the front cargo compartment. That outlet will power the little pancake air compressor we carry on the rig.

This gave us a direct run back to the cabinet above the fridge.

Another of my lovely brides ideas, was too take the telescoping pool pole, slide it in to the required distance, then slide the 12-2 inside of that.

Using this method we were able to get to the area above the fridge. That cabinet has a false wall in back, once that is removed the guts of the wiring are exposed.

Once in that cabinet, the wires will drop behind the fridge and into the space behind the panel box. Wires will be zip tied to the rig's original loom, not shown here.

I removed a "knock out" added a wire clamp and the wires are ready for the new breaker.

Next big challenge was getting one of the wires pulled over to the vent opening, above the bed. No good pictures of this part, there was just not enough room. But we got it done.

That's as far as we got last night. Next will be installing the new seal kist on the Craigslist AC unit, pulling the vent, cleaning the roof and setting the unit in place.

Installed the new seal kit;

Pulled the vent;

Cleaned to old sealant off;

Lowered the landing gear as far as possible, set the A/C unit on the tailgate of the truck, backed the truck up close and my son and I stood on the tailgate and lifted the unit to the roof of the rig;

Buttoned up the outside;

As the light was fading we moved inside, the install is complete, but I did not take any pictures of the finish inside. It was dark out and I was just trying to finish up.

Next up is the new converter. The OEM unit was acting weird, battery going dead, without warning. Intermittent operation of the unit. We ordered a Progressive Dynamics (PD9270V) 70 Amp Power Converter with Charge Wizard. It should be delivered today. Plan is to install it this afternoon.

None of your pictures are showing on this website. I tried Google Chrome and Firefox, so it isn't the browsers.

Yeah, that's odd. I see them on my iPhone and (3) different PCs. Not sure why you wouldn't?
The pics are hosted on my Photobucket account and linked here.

Swapped out the converter, with the replacement.
Had to cut the enclosure open, so I could keep the fuse panel and panel door mounting location.Click image for larger version

When I added the new breakers for the additional A/C, put one in for the converter as well. OEM one was piggy backed onto another circuit, now it is on its on breaker.

Yeah, I think I'm going to order a couple more of those and swap out the cigarette lighter ports in my truck, with those. That's the only thing ever in the truck's lighter ports, is a USB charger adapter.

The converter is s nice upgrade as well. Before I installed that, my fridge would always be blinking the "check" light. Since the new converter that has not happened. I think it was not seeing consistent 12v power.
