Morryde Step Above Help

Ok I installed a set of these steps in my 25FKS. Problem is now the Screen door is having clearance problems when closing with the step stowed in the upright travel position.

Anyone have any fixes for this issue?

Can you be more specific about the clearance problem?

At the hinges? Just closing the door? With the steps down? Steps up?

Steps in the Travel position (up). The door flange where the Morryde latches to is where the clearance problem is. I'm thinking that notching the screen door at the interference point may be an option.

Hi,

Some folks have reported the cure for their problem was to trim the sweep on the bottom of the screen door.

FWIW.

Morryde Step Above Help

My screen door is double thick... has an extra (unused) channel to hold a sheet of plexiglass if desired. Installing technician notched my screen on both sides where it contacts the step’s latch panels. He didn’t notch the screen door high enough on either side so I did. It’s fixed! I’ll paint these wounds — someday. Click image for larger version

Thanks Mr Dan. That's the route that I'm going to take. I also had to remove the Door hold open Shock so I could swing the door wider to lower the steps. Now I have to find a solution to hold the door open without hitting my Awning support.

Do you have steps with hydraulic help or those that you lift yourself? If no lift assist I need to know if very heavy to lift

No lift assist on the set I got. They are not overly heavy so they are not too much of a chore to deploy. They are heavy enough that when in use they feel solid. Don't know the exact weight, but my wife can lower them without my assistance.

Lift support cylinders are available in various lengths. Would it help to buy one that's 1" or 2" longer? Remove one end, open the door, and measure to see how much more you need.

The shock I make note of is Not a Lift Assist shock. It is the one located on the bottom of the door, used to help keep the door in the open position.

The shock mount has to be removed to install the Morryde steps on the door threshold. A longer one is probably not an n this case. I'm still researching door hold open devices that will need to be attached to the Outside of the door.

It turns out that the proper name for that item is an "RV Door Keeper," sometimes "RV Door Keeper and Latch." Examples are here.

If the outside surface of the door and unit are both flat, you can attach both parts with double-sided foam mounting tape. Be sure to get the "exterior" or "outdoor" kind.

Our 2003 is set up like this. It also has a doorstop affixed to the side of the trailer to prevent the door from slamming into the side before it is latched. It uses a stop like this 2-1/2" one.. Not sure if you can affix this with double-sided tape, but you could mount an "elavator bolt" like this with double-sided tape to the side of the trailer and attach the bumper to it. These are cheap, but they'll likely nick you a few bucks for shipping and handling.

"One more thing"

I have found in a semi dark, possible state of inebriation, or some other excuse that the Moreryde landing feet on the ground can become a somewhat invisible trip or toe stubbing hazard so here is my solution for that....Other than that I had to remove one of the stowed position latches because our door won't open all the way flat to the trailer but the steps seem to stay well stowed anyway. But the steps and the storage box that replaces the fold out junk steps seem to be very well made, time will tell as they havent been on their first trip yet, but then again neither have we (complete newbies) So if a stubbed toe is the worst thing that happens

Moryde assist on steps

Thanks for the reply to my question. We have a 2018 Rockwood signature ultra lite fifth wheel 8301ws and was told that the second part of the year they mad a floor plan adjustment for moryde steps with assist. I want moryde steps and thought the unassisted ones would work.

Apparently the assisted steps are only available as OEM. Aftermarket steps are unassisted.???

Morryde Step Above Help

Just finished installing mine had same issue with screen door. I just unbolted screen door and raised it a 1/8” and re-drilled holes attaching screen door. No trimming of sweep required just a little lift and a couple holes no one will ever see as they are behind the mounting tab.

Never mind Re read different issue but will leave post up in case anyone runs into my issue lol. Mine was rubbing on the bottom of screen door.
