Mouse (varmint) control Flagstaff 831

Can anyone, (factory included) suggest where the most vulnerable spot is for mice to immigrate??

I have crawled and foamed every space and crack under the trailer. It is difficult around the front panel, rear panel, and slide rods. But i have tried. Mice still getting in. What is the most likely spot to look for?

Get some essential oil of peppermint ( not food grade peppermint) . Put a few drops on a few cotton balls placed in an old coffee mug. and place in RV. Do not get oil on interior surfaces as it will damage them. Mice hate peppermint.

Peppermint sounds interesting and different and worth a try. I have tried many other things with mixed results. The mice ate the Irish Spring soap bars that was suggested I try. I now pack all towels and bedding in plastic tubs with strong smelling drier sheets. That does not keep them from chewing the plastic coatings off my wiring though. Never leave toilet paper as they love to make messy nests out of it. I would like to hear more rodent proofing ideas as this always a problem for me. Mice ruining my camper makes me:

Don't know for sure that it will work for mice, but for squirrels I was told the best thing to do was to get a jar with a metal cap, punch holes in the metal cap. Fill the jar with cotton balls. The to the drug store or such and buy the strongest, sweetest, cheapest perfume you can find. Pour the perfume over the cotton balls and place the cap on the jar. Then place the jar where it is your having rodent problems.

It seems that the rodents have a real nasal problem with super strong sweet smells. I guess this could be why the peppermint oil works.

If you ever find where they are getting in, plug the hole with steel wool and spray foam. That should keep any more critters out from then on.

I have no experience but next week when I lay our baby down to sleep for her hibernation we will use cab fresh, I like the video info I watched, time will tell.

As far as where they come in, any hole as small as a dime!

We have steel wool at every pipes holes true the floor, and in the fall we put bounce sheets all over the inside, every door, drawers on the floor, on and under the mattress and every where you can think off, put a whole box in and it works good for us. Make sure you use BOUNCE as other brand dont work.Dont know what it is with Bounce but it does the job good......

We cleared Everything etc out of our RPod in anticipation of trading it in 2015. Do we still have to be concerned about mice?

I certainly would take no chances and do whatever is neccessary to avoid any unwanted visitors. Just think if you decide to not bother and in spring something is chewed up....Did you leave the matresses in.... if so it's a good hidding place for these creatures......

Put some traps in to get the ones that are getting in don't use poison because they die and stink up your unit. they usually come in at the bottom corner of the slide. I used moth balls all around under the trailer one year and had no problems, they keep all critters out from under it. Once the snows on the ground they hibernate someplace else.

I finally found out our mice were coming in thru the slide rails. the give away for me was when I found acorns in the rails. I stopped it with some steel wool in the open and closed spots. I haven't found any evidence since.

Amen to that; I have since found similar, although the actual rails were tight on ends, i did find some holes in the frame near the slide rail penetration that i had missed before. I have since filled those. Now also i found where mice were coming into the trailer box from the underfloor thru plumbing chase in the cabinet where pump is located. Factory had done nothing to seal this floor penetration. Plenty of room for mice and rats to enter there. Now filled with thick foam sealer, steel wool if you like. If the factory will not close up frame penetrations, vermin have a good place to camp out in the subfloor, and subsequently find a way through the floor. Should be a standard, yet inexpensive construction process. Do you hear me FR....

I like to use Sticky Pads as well. Locate them near the obvious places. Corners, along the walls where they might travel and near suspected places where they are getting in your unit.

I Can't help it I must state the obvious. Be sure you close the cover down over your electric cord or they will crawl up the cord and into your rig.

1.) under the fridge in the o/s kitchen - remove fridge and shelf it sits on. There will be a plumbing and electrical 4" hole to the underside to fill

2.) under the inside fridge- remove converter and inspect. Oversized hole for gas / electric

3.) beside furnace - remove grill in front of furnace. Ours had a hole needing filled

4.) factory sub woofer in entertainment centre. electrical cables in an oversized hole again

5.) under bathtub - remove plumbing access and look under the tub. Ours had a hole to beneath under the tub drain trap

6.) fill all the holes and gaps beneath the trailer in the frame and slider rails. There were lots of holes to fill from the factory for wiring etc to pass through that were not used on our model.

I posted a few pics in a previous post. We have the 8311ss which I believe is the same as yours

Good luck

Rather than steel wool, try bronze wool. Won't rust and lasts forever. Find it on Amazon or at a boat supply store, West Marine is one place.
