My 2013 Roo 23SS mods
Hi all. I've had the new Roo for a few weeks now, and have gotten through several mods, with a few more to go before our first trip. Several of these I picked up from other forum members. There are certainly a lot of great ideas on this site!
Completed:
1. added shelves to wardrobe closet
2. added screen to exterior fridge access panel
3. added screen to front water pump access panel
4. added privacy curtain near bank bunk / bathroom door
5. secured the optional rear bumper step so it stays in place
6. secured bumper caps so they don't vibrate loose
7. filled wiring harness with bulb grease
8. built box to hold hitch bars and sway bar
9. installed hooks in side panel storage to hold awning bar, slide bar, etc
Pending:
10. add drawer to the cabinet on the right by entrance door (drawer built, but the face is waiting on varnish to dry)
11. add bathroom shelf (waiting on the varnish...)
12. replace shower head with Oxygenics brand
13. replace curtain rod with bendable i-beam
14. add plexiglas to shower corners (by cabinet & toilet)
UPS just dropped off the Oxygenics and new curtain rod so I'll get those installed over the next couple days.
First camping trip planned for 19-April. Can't wait to try this baby out for real!
Pictures to follow...

screen for fridge panel
This one was a little tricky. Basically had to work the screen to get it bent to shape, and then I used small push tacks to secure in place on the edges, and small zip ties to secure it in the middle sections.
The tacks do penetrate the other side by maybe 1/16". I bent the points over so they stay in place. On the next dry day I'm going to add a small drop of white silicone each. Not worried about water, just don't want to stick my hand in there and end up with a cut from a tack sticking up!

Nice list of mods. Thanks for the pics. Don't forget to add screen to your furnace vent too. I even hot glued a couple scraps of screen to the bumper plugs.

Ah, forgot about that. The RV store had a pre-made unit that I picked up for the furnace vent. And good idea on adding screen to the bumper plugs, will put that on the to-do list.

Tom, great ideas! luckily, i don't have to screen so many things out here, since bugs aren't a big problem.
what's the rear step for, didn't know it's a new option? can't be useful when the bunk is out.
there are a lot of 23SS owners on RV.net, that have a lot of mods done on theirs. one put a huge sliding storage tray under his. another one installed a side window, by the sofa in the slideout, like the 21SS has.
i can point out a few of them for you if you'd like to see their ideas.

just wondering, why screens everywhere?
is it bugs, mice or pests in general?

Bugs in general, but wasps and hornets being my main concern. I'm always destroying their homes around the house and my other trailers, figured I'd get ahead of the game by adding screens everywhere.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to browse that forum.
That step came w/ the camper. It's meant to quickly attach/detach, but since I can't really put it on the front (due to the hitch bars), I figured I'd just set it up permanently on the rear bumper. I'm just tall enough that I can reach the entire top of the bunk and tuck in the canvas.

Welcome to the Roo crew. Those are some great looking mods. I've been meaning to do the screens and you've just inspired me! I also have the entertainment center drawer on my list and would be much obliged if you posted some details on construction and attachment. By the way, we just added the oxy shower head on our last trip and its as good as everyone says.

I put dog flea collars in my refrigerator access area and in other doors that open to the outside. In the storage compartments, I put about 1/4th of an Irish Spring soap bar. So far, no nothin' anywhere in 3 years time.

I did the same with mine but used hot glue to hold the screens in place. Great for keeping insects out of the appliances.

Entertainment center drawer
Drew, I had a drawer from an old cabinet that I just had to take apart and cut down to 13.5"w x 5.75"h x 18" deep. Put it back together with glue and 1" staples (air tools are priceless!). The face is 3/4"d x 6.5"h x 15.625". I got the 20" slides from Lowes.
To support the inside end of the rail, I glued & screwed a 3"x9" piece of birch plywood to a strip of pine board, then screwed that up into the counter top using 1 1/4" screws (I drilled the pine board first to avoid splitting)

Good idea using hot glue, wish I thought of that first. I also wish I had a hot glue gun.

Shower rod upgrade
Full credit to jbdbsb for this idea. I ordered the 7 foot piece of flexible curtain track from curtain-tracks.com:

More mods
Finished up the bathroom shelf, and made some wheel chocks. Hopefully Santa will bring me some Rotochocks this year!
