My mod for counter extension storage

Our trailer came with a handy kitchen counter extension that was stored under the dinette slide and accessed from outside - not too convenient! The only other place inside the trailer was under the sofa, again hard to get to. I realized there was space behind the bathroom door when it was opened and put on my thinking cap. Here is my simple mod - a double sided velcro strap fastened to the wall that loops through the hinged leg on the table. Tidy, secure and easy to get to!

Good job !
Can I ask why isn't it mounted to the end of the counter and laid down when not in use ?

If it's like mine it's either mounted or not. You can't lay it down. If you could it would block drawers under it.

Good idea. KISS principle...

No drawers behind.

That's right, it slips into brackets on the flip down drawer (those 2 black things visible near the top of the counter), and there are drawers beneath that, pix attached. Would be nice if it could remain flipped down, but no dice. Note that the counter extension is invisible when it is fastened behind the bathroom door!

We added legs to ours so we could move it around, I did not like how it blocked the drawers, now we can also use it at the sofa as a computer table or in the dinette when we don't want the big table up. Makes more sense for the 2 of us.Click image for larger version

How did you do that? It looks like the support legs from the big dinette table?

Yes it is. I kept banging my legs when it was on the big table so we put screw on legs on the big table, and the folding legs on the extension. We tend to use the smaller table more for during the day, allows more room. Nice also to have 2 tables for when DH need to work! We love our trailer!

Our 2304S, purchased around 3 years ago, does not have the counter extension. Apparently Forest River had enough complaints from owners about the lack of counter space. Also it might also reduce the chances of wacking your head on that evil cupboard corner as my poor wife has done a few times. It would be nice to get that installed. I wonder if you could order it directly from FR?

On my Wildcat....after I used granite tile on the counter top....I made adjustments to the extension which brought it up to the dame height as the countertop. Then storr=e it in the wardroom closet. Cut a small piece of oak into a hook with a hole in the center which I mounted to the side wall of the closet with a long bolt. Just slide it into the closet up against the wall and turn the oak hook down over the edge of the extension. Holds it really well and out of the way.
