My New backup camera system.

I just bought my camper and I could not see real well behind. The RV mirrors were a little expensive and always wanted a backup camera system. I decided to get one too since it has night vision on it. So here we go.

NOTE:SORRY ABOUT VERY LARGE PICTURES.
NOTE:More Picture will be added as I get more done. I have not completed this job. I have started installing on my truck. I will continue on RV once it's warmer. It's south dakota and FEB therefore it's cold as crap.

This picture :::This is how I got the power for the camera AND monitor. I tapped into a fuse. I made sure the use is something that does not matter if fuse blows. I also made sure that it is something that can only supply power when key is on. I also made sure that the cord is on the other side of the fuse NOT the power side.

In this picture you will see how I toggle the camera off and on. I do two things. I had it hooked up where it only had power when truck is on. Plus I had a shut off on top of that in case I don't want it on when I'm going down road. This switch is just jammed between ground and center counsel. You will notice driving side seat.

This is where my camera will be mounted. these are just the cables ran. I will show more pictures once I am finished.

This picture you will show me running cables behind the panelling and running up into where the monitor will be mounted.

This is just a picture of me running the cables from the monitor through the cab out the back.

The panel between steering wheel and foot petals I took this panel off to run the cabling to the center of truck. I then ran through this panel down the kick panel and followed the door jams to the rear of truck.

This is just a picture of me running the cables from the monitor through the cab out the back.

This is the air box going out the back of my truck. I went through this box so I did not have to drill hole in metal. So I choose the plastic.

This is a vent out the back seat to between the cab and box. I wanted a way to bring cables from inside to outside without drilling hole in metal. So I choose plastic.

Yea, I sold the pickup 3 days ago. LOL I plan on hooking it back up.

Number one thing I found out is run the video through COAX cable(same used for tv cable) the quality was 10 times better.

Otherwise New truck will probably get it too but I just bought the truck and have not had time.

so where are you mounting the camera.....on the rear of the camper?

also, your head unit (or screen) does not have an input for a coax cable, does it?

I live in South Dakota so it has been a little cold for installing things, I also don't have a garage.

That being said I plan on putting on truck bumper and mount one to the back of the camper(high, middle) but it won't be soon since my new truck has a dash that is hard to run cables through so unsure.

As far as the coax cable, On ebay you can buy adapaters for COAX to RCA, The output on the camera and the input on the monitor are both RCA, I ran a RCA cable but major interference. I switched it up and used coax and it was even better quality.

Hope this helps.

the reason why the coax is better is cause it is shielded and braided which is to keep interfearance out of the signal

Congrats on the new truck
what truck did you have and what truck did you purchase if I can ask?

I also bought a camera system to use for backing up but it is wireless and not permantly mounted - it is the VisionStat by Mobile awerness - havent used it yet but it too has night vision - I think getting a hard wired unit is a better choice even though not as easy to install as a wireless is.

I've got a backup system. It doesn't work too well in the mornings and gives me a bunch of attitude most other times. But, it's a really good cook so I think I'll keep it. It's name is Hollie

I am also on the market for a wireless rear camera for the TT, I'm spoiled with the backup camera I have on the truck.
Please update when you get it mounted and in use

so you guys that are not going wireless.....

im assuming you leave a pigtail in your pickup bed and run a pig tail out the front of the camper..........then have to hook them up every time you pull the camper?

scubie, where do you live in SD? did you get nailed with snow in the past couple days too? we have a hell of a mess up here in ND. i live in a very rural area, and the closest town that has an official "snow measurement" is about 10 miles away. they recorded 14'' of snow. and it was some nasty, wet, heavy ****.

Hardly any snow here. And by hardly I mean maybe a dusting and not everything was cover. We are having more flooding issues then anything. Darn ND is sending down all that water.

Besides that I hope the snow stays away. It's time to go camping!
