Where I installed mine was actually part of the awning where it attached to the camper. You sure you don't have that area? You can see mine in a previous post picture. Take a picture looking up at your closed awning and we can give you some ideas.

Also, regarding the tape attached to the LED's. I installed some in my F150. In the bed I used 3M automotive double sided tape. It hasn't moved. Inside my center console storage I just used the tape from the LED's. That fell off within 6 months. Now I only use 3M tape when I install the LED's. YMMV

You can place it right under the awning strip. Go to your local Rev show or dealer you will see how they installing them on new rvs . I cut access I. Thge side and ran a wire down to the refrigerator power. See picture.

Should stick the led strip on the side just like you have it? I'm thinking about using the outside light for power.
If I stick it to the side of the RV like you have how bright is the light? Does it reflect downward?

i installed my LED's about 1" below the metal rail on the side of the trailer. i attached my wires to the 12v source at the step light. i ran the wires through plastic wire molding up to the controller which i put in a weatherproof enclosure.

Can you include a pic of how bright it is at night with the led mounted on the side of the trailer?

Don't have a picture of how bright the lights are but if you have seen the rope light used it is just as bright or brighter.

I have this strip of led in my rZr and they are very bright. I'm wondering if I stick them on the side of the trailer will it reflect downward where I need the light to shine. Here is a pic of the led strip in my Rzr Click image for larger version

Hard to tell from the picture but are you sure you don't have a spot under the awning? I would think how awnings attach would be pretty common. My area is maybe 1" wide. I put it close to the camper in case I wanted to add another strip of lights. You only need about 1/2" of space.

I think the LEDs cover about 120 degrees. So if you did put them on the side of the camper I would think you would just have an area down on the ground next to your camper that might not get as much light.
