I installed my lights under the rain gutter (so I can have them on regardless of the whether the awning is extended.) It adds a very nice accent to the whole trailer. It also attracts quite a crowd. On several occassions over Labor Day weekend, I had groups of people standing in the campground road watching them and asking me about them. Some were like kids playing with the remote.

Do the lights attract bugs? When I used Christmas lights the bugs were terrible! I found other lights dont attract bugs as much. Really like the look of this but dont want the bugs to go with it.

I didn't notice any major increase or decrease in bugs. Of course the only time I've been out was when it was pretty hot and there isn't much you can do about them in the heat.

Worried about bugs while camping? Never heard of bugs bothering anyone while camping.

Lights are usually high enough on the trailer to not bother anyone.

Just a suggestion: could a mod close this one. It's long enough.

This horse IS dead.

Mine quit working this weekend. They came from amazon, LED Wholesalers. I think I posted a link earlier. 1 week after the return deadline, but I contacted amazon and they are letting me return them. I guess I'll try another set. Hope the next set holds up longer.

Really very impressed with all of the clever ways these diode lights have been wired in. Couple of questions I have and I have read through all 61 pages. It seems like what ever way you wire this up you still have to get out a ladder to plug the strip in and the head of the roller, is that a correct assumption? Obviously that is not for the guys who have installed them under the awning but out on the roller.

I just pull my awning down and plug in.
But it's also an electric .

You know how you dip one side of your awning to let the rain water roll off? Just do that and you can reach the end and plug it in without a ladder.

So, I am for putting this one to bed; but the topic keeps getting hits.
If you want it to die, just move on...

I have only used the camper twice since we received it and have never had an electric awning before so I wasn't sure you could just reach up and pull it down. I am not nearly as sophisticated as many of you here and so I looked for a simpler method.
I thought I would split the 12 volt circuit that is for the light in the pass through and put in a female DC auto plug (cigarette lighter as we use to call them) mounted to the wall up high out of the way. Then I would Velcro the control box in the awning channel up where it plugs to the strip, then run a line down the awning channel with Velcro attachments points with a male DC plug on that end. Then I could open the pass through plug in the lights and be ready to go. Admittedly it will require unplugging the unit to role up the awning but gosh into everyone life a little rain must fall. Am I missing something with the this country boy method.

Some of us mounted them under the awning rail on the camper and all we have to do is hit the light controller to turn them on. The awning can be retracted or extended, makes no difference and we don't have to plug or unplug anything. Some of us are just lazier than others.
