Crunchman, if you interrupt (cut) the +12V wire going to your existing step light and insert the motion switch in that line, then also attach the LED Lights to the output of the motion switch, both will turn on At Night when there is Motion within about 20' of the motion switch.
There is no need to install a 110V Receptacle and then use a 12V Power Supply to obtain the 12V required for the LEDs. You have the 12V right there at the Step Light, and the entire mod (Original Step Light and LEDs) can be manually switched off by the original Step Light Switch when you do not want the lights coming on or when in storage.

I think Crunchman was wanting to install a 'light to dusk' electric eye instead of a motion detector.

Hi RodeoGeorge,
Sorry for the long rambling post that follows.
I think I was confusing you on my last post. Sorry for that.
I am putting the LED's that I ordered already on the wall of the camper. I ordered the LED's with a 110V power supply so I could just plug them in to an outlet. (very easy for me)
I had inquired about the dusk to dawn switch that was mentioned by OldCoot as an option to install in the LED setup.
It would appear everyone has used a 12V power source for the install of the LED's so I was wondering if it might be easier for me to just buy a 12V power supply to use like everyone else has, but I am still not sure where I can find power to cut into on a 12V line in the camper. The only 12V exterior light I have is a single amber porch light but it is powered by my 5 function remote control http://www.lci1.com/images/Flyers/LI...te-2nd-gen.pdfand does not have a switch in the camper for it. ( all 5 slots are filled)
I figured if I had both the 12V and 110V options, I could do which ever was easier for me to understand with information provided by everyone here.
You had mentioned the motion sensor for the LED's and I figured since my steps do not currently have any light, power source or switch control, that would be a completely different mod for me to do in the future.
I would just need to get power to the steps first, then I would wire the motion sensor that you had mentioned into that line along with a new set of LED's and a switch to light up the steps.
Given the information that you provided, I now understand how to get the motion sensor to work with the step lights that I will buy but I need to figure out how to get a 12V power line there first.
Can I run a line straight from the battery to both sets of steps for a power source then use the information you provided to wire the steps up?
Would it be better/easier for me to ad a new circuit/breaker (if i have room in the box) and use that newly added 12V line as a source for both the LED lights for the exterior wall application and the step lights?
If I put the power from that new breaker into a 4" box, couldn't I just pigtail the lights for the exterior wall LED's and the step lights, killing 2 birds with one stone?
I am probably confusing you and me... I just do not know about how the power in the panel is split between 110V and 12V so adding a new 12V breaker might be more difficult than I think?
Like I said, sorry for the confusion, I do not want to be a burden here.
Thank you for the information you have already provided.

OldCoot. You are correct, I was inquiring about the dusk to dawn switch for the exterior wall LED lights.
RodeoGeorge had brought up the motion sensor that would be great for a different MOD that I would like to do for the step lights.
Thank you for the clarification.

Crunchman,
I didn't quote your post because of the length, which was good because you laid out several options.
To make a long story short, my thoughts are that installing a 110V receptacle and then having to use a 12V DC power supply for the LED lights is not the way to go, since you can find 12V DC many places in the RV.
If there are no spare positions on your 12V DC Fuse Panel, where you could add separate fuse for a wire run to the LED lights, I'd run one FUSED line from your battery to the location of the LED lights and power all of them from that line.
Bear in mind that the Dusk-To-Dawn switch, and the Motion Detector switch that have been referenced here are 12V DC Switches, and cannot be used on a 110V circuit.

RodeoGeorge,
I am sorry for the previous long and rambling post. I will go out to the trailer tomorrow and take a pic of the panel with the cover off. I do think I have breakers available to run a new line but would like to confirm with you and other experts here.
I agree it would be easier to have a new line to run these lights in 12V so I could do switches, lights ect. without cutting into something I should not.
I can build a house but electrical stuff confusses the heck out of me.
Thank you for your patience.

If you do this make sure it is 12 volts d
DC mist led lights will work from 5 to 18 Volts

I'm about a 1/2 week ahead of you! I ordered the same light/remote and an extra strand. I'm way too impatient for the boat from China. Guess I have no choice now!

I found a local company in my area that handles the LED strips and can custom make the wiring needed. I cannot get to my camper yet as it is stored at the dealer. I figure to mount the 12 volt power supply in the cargo area and tap power off the light in the cargo bay. The I can run a power line that from the cargo bay, up the awning arms and plug into the led light strip. They showed me the LED strip and it comes with 3m tape attached. I want to attach it right to the awning roll bar under the awning, so that after unplugging the power they would roll up inside the awning. I have the Crusader 265rld with the 20 foot awning but I figure 1 16 foot length should be enough light leaving a 2 foot gap on either end of the awning. Guess my question to everyone is does this make sense and also does any one know the length of the awning arms when they are extended. I looked thru all the manuals but they only give thee length. Since it is a new camper I have not been able to measure yet. I am guess I will need about 15 feet of wire from cargo area to light strip. 2 feet from the light strip to edge, 5 feet from cargo hold to awning arm, and then "guessing" that the arm should be about 8 feet. Suggestions always welcome

I can't tell 100%, is that with the awning rolled up and the lights just under it? If so, how does it look\ function with the awning extended?
