I used this guy ... LED-Outlets

he has waterproof 5050 RGB ... I have one under the awning and one under the frame.

Got mine on Ebay from star-doo for $28.00. He now has them for $25.98.
5050 SMD IP65 Waterproof RGB 5M 300 LED Strip 24 44 Key IR 12V 5A Power Supply | eBay
Put them on the under the awning track next to the trailer so you can use them with the awning open or closed. You might be killing them if you roll them up with the awning. Mine have been up since April with no issues.
Direct install to 12V power. Controller mounted inside since it is not waterproof.
Good luck,
crunchman

Thank you GlacierGus. With the help from this forum, the install came out very clean.
I am going to add 1 more strip to the right of the awning under the same rail. The right side of the awning is pretty dark. Just need to buy a "Y" connector for the power to controller and another roll of 3M tape. Will post additional pics when completed.

My 2014 xlr27hfs came with white leds mounted on the inside of the awning. I do not know how they are mounted. I would like to put colored ones if they mounted the same way. Has anyone changed there factory white lites?

Where are they mounted, in the awning tube?

I have gone back through this thread and have not seen where anyone has had this issue, but I am going to hook two strands together of the 5M 5050 RGB Waterproof Flexible Strip 300 LED + 44 key IR Remote + Power Supply to get 10 meters of length. I was reading on Amazon on a review of a kit that one person stated that with two strands hooked together:

"I can tell that the lights get a bit dimmer towards the back of the camper, so I am definitely pushing the limits of running two strands on one RGB controller"

And the another person stated this:

"I am also noticing that when hooked together in series, the second strand is slightly different color to the first one when going through the color fade feature. When the tho sets are swapped the first one in the chain takes on the same color characteristics as the last one when it was in the same position. When in static color mode, they are the same color."

Has anyone had this problem with them hooked together in series?

I have two strands soldered together to get me a total of 21 feet with no apparent changes in color or brightness. At least that I can tell.

No on trailer wall side where the awning connects to the wall. They might be mounted to the rail that attaches the awning to the wall.

That is the first time that I have heard of the lights being mounted onto the camper from the factory, my parents brand new 5er and also one of their friends new class A both have them in the awning tube.

One problem that I can think of is that since you said that your factory LEDs are a single color you more than likely only have 2 wires, a positive and ground, going from the switch to the lights. The colored LEDs have 4 wires, 1 wire for each of the 3 colors and a ground. So you would have to pull new wires to replace the ones you currently have.

Then you would have to find out how they are mounted in place, I have never seem the model that you have so I will be no help there. Good luck, hopefully some who either has or has seen a camper like your will be able to help with the mounting aspect.

Led leads

My set only had two lead wires leading in and out for power...that is what I wired into the DC system...there is a four pin plug from transmitter to the light strip.......

You are correct. There is only 2 wires going into the receiver to power it up, but there are 4 wires coming out (red, green, blue, white). Since 10X currently only has a LED with single color he doesn't have a receiver like what we have wired in to control the light colors. More than likely he only has 2 wires running up to the actual lights, unlike those of us who have installed the colored LEDs there are actually 4 wires going from the receiver/controller to the lights.

Thats another thing 10X, you will have to wire in the controller for the lights along with pulling the new wire up to them.

That is correct 2 wires. Thats why I was wondering if the lights everyone are installing here are the same style as the factory ones. If I knew for sure I would mount new colored ones in the same factory mount. Maybe somebody has factory lights they have changed to colored ones that might chime in. For now the white lights look nice since in the past there were no such lights on older units. FR must have seen how many folks on here mounted LEDs and decided to install them from factory on there new units.

Can you post a picture of these "factory mounts".

It might be something that many of us are interested in, particularly since some have had their light strips come loose.
