My solution to awning lights

I like having mine in the awning slot. Allows a degree of aiming with my power awning. I can extend it a little less and aim at the camper, or extend a little more and aim towards the ground.

The only 2 drawbacks are when the awning is stowed, no lights and having to plug & unplug when deploying & stowing.

Not necessarily if you are just staying overnight on a trip to FL like we do or on a trip somewhere else.

Does anyone have any idea about the life of the lights? For example, keeping it on all night - are they time limited?

Well I am very disappointed. The Domestic LED light strip kit $175.00 lasted from October until last weekend. About an inch from the plug they got hot and melted. What a piece if crap for 175. I will stick with the other ones I received from china for 25 bucks they still work!!"

Well after reading all the posts here I got my lights, did the prep work in the pass thru, cut my lights to length and siliconed the end.

Tonight was the "install" the strip night. EXCEPT the outdoor fancy 3M super sticky tape will not stick to my light strip. Sticks to anything else, just not the strip.

My strip is totally encased in a silicone sleeve. I am trying an experiment with a short piece. Ran some silicone seal on the strip then put the piece of 3M tape on it. Will check in the morning and see if it has good adhesion. If that doesn't work I'm stumped.

Ideas anyone?

Home Depot and Lowes has a two faced tape product this is sold in there countertop department..the product is used with the BackSplash Products by Fascade..comes in several different patterns an colors...Used the tape on my LED light installation for my cargo compartment...the first string would not stick even though I wiped the services down with alcohol twice...used the tape, all is well:

Are you using this 3M tape and wiping everything down with acetone?

How many of you put the LED's on the actual awning overhang under the fringe and how many of you put them on the side closest to the RV wall?

I just used the tape that was on the back of the lights and granted it took two of us to get it up there because the weight of the yet-to-be stuck on end kept pulling the rest down. Once it was up there it was sturdy, but I did apply a bead of silicone to both sides of the lights every couple of feet and a enough to cover the ends thoroughly to keep it there. So far it has held up through about 50 miles of towing at 65mph with no problems.

3m makes an automotive trim molding adhesive that works awesome. I might be able to get t he part number for you.

Finally got mine up today. Used the 3m tape below and it worked like a champ. Only 1/2" wide....

I bought the 3M molding tape at Advance Auto parts, a 15ft roll was just over $11 with tax.

We have our first trip this coming weekend, about 105 miles of interstate each way. So we will see how 3M tape that came on the light strip holds up to that... I put the roll of molding tape in the truck along with one of my work platforms, just incase I have to remount the lights when we get to the CG, hopefully not, but I would rather have the stuff and not need it than need it and not have it!

Thanks for all the ideas. The problem seems to be getting something to stick to the silicone. I'm not using the RGB 5050 that most of you have. It's called Dream 6803. The strip is loosely encased in a silicone sleeve. There is no tape pre-installed on the back of the tape. The exterior 3M tape - red protection on both sides - grey super sticky stuff is the actual tape I'm trying to use. Seems like it should stick like crazy but you would think it was greased the way it won't stick to the silicone sleeve. And yes I wiped down with acetone.
The experiment of putting a bead on the strip then sticking the tape to that seems to be holding. I won't pull hard till it has more time to set up.
