Cabiner Mood Lights

Here is what I've done thus far on top of the Kitchen Cabinets, they have an on/off switch just under the wall cabinet:

How did you wire those puppy's in, and do you have an on/off switch for them?

Its 30ft of led total

Additionally I used these leds to backlight the crown moulding in my daughters nursery....it also has 640 individual fiber optic strands that make up a "starfield ceiling"...as you can tell i like these led strips! Lol

Re-installation of LED Strip Question

As I have posted earlier, my first LED Strip install went well until after one season, it partially failed due to the poor quality of the LED strip. Now it must be replaced. I have a new waterproof strip to re-install BUT... The original install was done using 3-M Trim tape on the underside channel of the aluminum awning strip. The failed LED strip came off reasonably easy, but the 3-M tape remains.. and is proving to be extremely difficult to remove prior to the re-install.. I have been told by a local body shop that if I use a heat gun, I will only make the original tape stick more.. and that I should use a 3-M tape removal wheel on an electric drill. The space is so confined and narrow that I am worried that I could damage the awning during the process. The original LED strip as mounted pointed downward under the awing rail.. Has anyone mounted a LED strip on the siding of the trailer just under the awning rail so that rather than pointing downwards, it points out away from the trailer?? If this is an option, rather that try to replace it the way it was mounted originally by me, It would remount the new strip in a different position using 3-M velcro where if it had to be repaired in the future, it would be easy to do. Ideas please..

the wheel is pretty safe......ive removed tape off of automotive finishes without damage..just gotta be careful..

as for the led strip, mine is mounted under awning pointing out just like you suggest.....and many others have done it this way without issue...my original strip has been in this position for 2 years without issue...

then you can run the wires down the awning rail and to the camper so you can power them with 12v if ya like....

I was curious as well about how to get the residue off so I emailed 3M. This is there response. Hope it helps Adony.

Hi David,

Thank you for contacting 3M.

To remove the adhesive residue, you may want to test 3Mâ„¢ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, Aerosol, PN- 08987 in a inconspicuous spot before using it in the complete application.

Specially blended solvent for removal of adhesives, silicone, wax, grease, tar, and oil.

I mounted mine on the wall of our rv just below the awning so when the awning is rolled up the lights are still functional. I did this for two reasons. There may be times when we can't roll the awning out and it also made it easier to hard wire to the inside. I just drilled a hole on the top of the awning channel into the bedroom. It worked out because there is a 12 volt outlet about two feet away. The IR is sticking out just enough that I can use the remote. Jerry. Click image for larger version

Question

Decided to add a set of these so I went back to the first post, as I want to try them in the awning channel - what I'll call the Wagon52/Turbs method... That first link is dead for the orignal e-bay source.

My question - that appears to have been 3528 leds and there is no mention of two sided tape. If you want to mount to them in the awning channel do you need a strip without the tape? And does it have to be a 3528 or will the 5050's (with or without tape) also fit? There are about a million sources for these and the descriptions vary, so its hard to tell what is what.

I managed to go all the way through the thread and I don't even want to guess how long I spent but I learned a bunch - like where to get connectors, about upgrading to RF remotes, the aluminum track and cover option and lots more.

But I think I found something that hasn't been mentioned in 1600+ postings:

Wireless WiFi RGB LED Strip Light Controller for iOS iPhone Android Phone Pad | eBay

Anybody using their phone to control the lights?

I considered the iPhone/Android controller. I kinda want to play with the cool remote. The RF controller I received was damaged in shipment. The RF antenna was not supported by glue to the circuit board and broke at the solder joint. The company is willing to replace it but I wanted to see what makes this controller tick.

Make sure your controller doesn't make a rattling sound before you put it in service. I will repair my controller in a day or so....

I purchased mine around the first posting but they came with an inferior brand of double side tape, like many here I removed the old tape and added 3M's Heavy Duty Double Side Tape, it only came in 1/2" so had to cut in in half (length wise). Replaced the tape put them up one June day and they have never given me any trouble, going to upgrade soon and hoping they will not be to hard to get off.

Replacing LED light strip....it's 3M but the adhesive is next to none. Any suggestions as to what we can use to put them up with without tearing off the decal/paint if we have to take it down?
I purchased them three months ago and can't exchange them!!!

I recommend the GIP aluminum metal strips. The lights can be replaced during the lifetime of the RV without pealing off the paint of your RV. My GIP strips installed in 1-hr. I also added a frosted cover that clipped in the GIP strip for additional protection.

Did you just use the 3-m tape that came with the strip or something else.. I am about to mount my second (replacement strip) and after the ordeal I went thru to remove the 3-M trim tape from the underside of the awning channel that I used for the first strip, I am looking at all other options including exterior velcro. My fear is that I might have to do another replacement in the future and want to make it an easy operation.

I like the GIP aluminum metal strips but they are not available locally and rather expensive as 3 strips would be needed to get the total length needed..

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I used 3M 03614 Scotch-Mount 1/2" x 15' Molding Tape. Bought it from Amazon. It is designed for molding on cars so I hope it works. We actually leave today for our first trip after putting it up. I'll let you know how it holds. The stuff that came with the lights literally fell off without even trying. Jerry.

My light project is complete. I settled with the RF controller and had to splice about 10 inches of LED strip light to make the lights approximately 18 feet. I purchased the 12 amp AC power supply and purchased spares for backup while on the road. The GIP aluminum channel with a frosted lens cover adds a nice touch to the finish product. The lights are tucked nicely next to the awning and will provide wind protection when driving. Overall, I had a blast with this project.
