my solution to interior led lights...keeping your cool

Ok , one of the main things I knew I wanted upgraded in my trailer was lights. The standard bulbs are too hot and inefficient...

So I did the warm white Chinese 24led panels in all the overheads...much nicer and big improvement......

But something was missing....in my home theatre I have led strips behind the crown moulding and love them.....

So I had just finished the led awning strip mod and DING....it hit me......

Another kit later, and about 15min of 'hard' work (ie , 2 beers)....led interior strip!...works GREAT white setting is really bright...lights up entire kitchen...dimmed down red was perfect for movie watching!....and no heat!....being in west Texas every btu counts! Lol

Hey that looks cool. I just finished my awning install and might have to order another set.

As a side note I install the Chinese 48 led pads in all my inside lights. While I'm happy with the power savings and the light quality I'm surprised by how much heat they put out.

Yeah, I was slightly UN impressed with the heat of the 24 panels.....but in the end they are WAY less hot than the stock lava core bulbs...and now with the led strip which is Wayyyyy cooler, we only use the overheads for direct light as needed....like over the sink or whatever........so far everyone has been in llove with the interior strip...aside from my outside strip and 55inch led outside tv it's everyone's fav mod...lol

Lol. Higley, I'll get you a pic....I'm sure that's all your wife needs to give you the ok....we Also have an outdoor 110" portable screen we use for pool movie nights....maybe I'll bring that one next time!!! Lol...

As far as the led lights , just do a search here....they have been discussed many times and there are way many options depending on what u like...

I used some warm white panels fRom China I got off eBay....just look for 12volt and the correct base....good luck

looks like all you guys did a great job - I am eventaully upgrading to LED's - havent cause I am spending money on new Bed and a power fan for the non power vent LOL

not fond of the red but that is just me - maybe if I saw it in person might be diffrent.

How would you attach a strip to the awning? I like that idea and is it permanemt or do you remove it prior to putting up your awning?

My led strip is waterproof and came with 3M double sided tape. The strip, very low profile and Ieave mine on and roll it up in my awning. I used to do the same with my cloth based awning hooks and they never made dent in the awning material. So far so good.

Starlights Inc has a huge variety of LED's and you can contact them with questions. Most dealers such as Camping world sells them too. They're not cheap but they save battey big time if you boondock. Most of my fixtures are replaced now.

reducing battery draw is important to me boondocking

I use a 2 gal acumulator tank which saves power (pump runs steady to fill tank pressure instead of on/off using starting amps each time). With that and LED's last week I stayed 5 nights and 6 days and used 20% of the 4 batteries I use (on my meter) That was 3 lights still lit on the panel. I can stay more than a week, no generator.

I have a 120v lamp between two chairs. I converted it to 12v with a bulb I found on Amazon which fits a standard socket, shines 25w with 6w draw. $22, not cheap but very useful and pratical.

Where did you get the power from for the awning strip? Is there a hot wire on the power awning? Is yours switched? This just shot to the top of my wish list!!!!!

I have a manual awning - so for the time being I have the led controller, power adapter, and the ac power cord running down the inside of the lower awning arm. I plug it in to the outside AC outlet on the camper.

Mine are wired to the 12v in the front storage hatch...they are 12v leds , but many use the 110 to 12v power supply...I ran my wires behind the power awning arm...it had a plastic wire cover already...then tied it into the storage hatch light....

I think there may be another post with pictures and a write up by someone else in another thread...
