Need to solve a problem. Any ideas?

I am looing for a mod that can help solve a problem. I was recently camping with the family. I was cooking at the outdoor kitchen. When suddenly and unexpectedly it started to rain. I found out the hard way that when the outdoor kitchen is open and it is raining the rain can fall in between the outdoor kitchen roof and the side of the camper. I am trying to think of a mod that can help with this problem and still be functional when on the move and look good when the kitchen is closed. Has anyone come up with a way to solve this problem? Thank uou for all and any ideas.

Awning? Either one of the slide ons like used on tent trailers,,or a roll up like your main awning.

Maybe a section of that vinyl shower door flap that goes on the bottom of glass doors could be installed over the hinge along the top of the door for your outside kitchen.....

Is the 'roof' you are referring to simply the outside storage door to the kitchen in the raised position?

How about a patio awning on side of the camper where the kitchen is?

Just a cheap idea... Cut a piece of flexible L shaped rubber to length. Should act like a gutter. When not in use throw it inside the outdoor kitchen.

I would say a 1/2" wide piece of rubber the length of the door over the hinge would work. I would say either double sticky back tape of silicone would keep it in place.

Had the same problem with my OD kitchen. My thought ( although haven't had time to try it) was to add a "C"-track to the side of the trailer just above the door opening. Then have a small awning made that could slide into the track and extend to the open end of the door where it could be attached with snaps or bungees. It could easily be removed when not needed and during travel. The track would blend in well with the top of the door frame.

I guess after thinking about it, is this water thats running down the side of the unit or water thats running back towards the unit from the door?

I think the OP is referring to the lift up kitchen door.

I want to thank everyone for their ideas. And answer a couple of the questions. Yes, the roof that I am referring to is simply the door when in the raised/ open position. And the water that is coming into the outdoor kitchen is rain and the rain that hits the side of the camper below my roof line.

I had something similar with my furnace door. Water coming down the side would get into the furnace and cause a short. I found a flexible drip molding and attached it over the door. I carried it 2 inches past the door on each side. It solved the problem and the furnace remains bone dry.

If the door opens beyond 90 degrees the rain falling on it run back to the hinge and leak through. One method of sealing this is to remove the hinge and place a strip of rubber the width of the hinge between it and the trailer to seal this area. It will not be visible with the door open or closed.
An alternate method is to use a hurricane hinge like those on truck caps.

Some good ideas. I have same issue. Lots of the new trailers have 2awnings the second one over the outdoor kitchen. Unfortunatly my trailer doesn't have space for another awning. This is a great thread some good responses

I would say add a second awning to the section above the kitchen area. My TT came with the 2nd awning already so i have not had the same issue you had. I know it is pricey but would solve the problem and add more shade to that area. Many times i thank god for the 2nd awning.

This was a problem I had and this is how I handled it.

Another problem I noticed that if it is raining and you are working in the outdoor kitchen the rain hits the raised door then water runs down to the top hinge area and I get a rain line on the back of my head and into the kitchen counter.

I tried two ways to fix it, first was to put plumbers putty all along the hinge. That worked for awhile but was just to messy. So cleaned that up then decided to move the gas strut hinges down about 4 inches to just above the counter. That worked great, the water now runs the other way away from the trailer. Added bonus you don't need to be almost 6 feet tall to reach the lid to close it.

If your trim is white, try cutting a length of enduro tape and cut it down to 1" wide and install it over the hinge. It is very durable and will take the uv from sun.
