New Awning Mod

Here have been many posters who are concerned with hanging lights, etc. off of their awning because of the threat of bad weather and having to quickly pull their awning in. I've even seen some posters on here who want to remove their power awning and replace it with a manual awning (huh???) my DH has come up with a pretty nifty mod, which you can see in the photos. It's a 1/16 inch wire rope, attached at the ends of the awning arms with snap clips. One end has an expansion spring. Required drilling a hole through the awning arm, which was pretty easy. Hang your lights from the cable, and if/when a wind comes up, just unclip the cable at each end and roll up your awning. It is designed to be able to roll right up with your awning, which it does when we tested it. So you could leave the cable and light string on it in an emergency. The lights will just hit the door, which is better than losing your awning! We'll remove it for travel. Can't wait to try it out fully this coming weekend! Hope the attachments work from my iPad,,,first time attaching photos from it.

spring loaded and some swedge's looped onto the clips with eye bolts thru the side arm's of the awning.

I like that idea - looks easy enough to make too - thanks for posting

looks like it is on the inside of the awning - does the back of the eye bolt threads ever interfere with the brackets that snap into the back of the main beams of the awning?

No. There's only the thickness of the nut inside the awning frame.
