No MOD but would like one.
I just did my inspection of my new Rockwood.
The spare tire hard cover is the uglies thing I have ever seen.
Other than buying a white vinyl cover it has anyone done anything else?

My spare isn't mounted, and I don't have a cover. My sister used to paint them for people, so you might find an artist and have them paint it. You might also try a graphic shop and get them to make a self stick decal. You can also find tire covers online, with graphics and pictures and stuff. You just need to measure your tire diameter for a proper fit. Just a few suggestions and ideas.

Apparently, you haven't been to the state fair, or shopped at Wally World.
All jokes aside. X2 what windrider said.

Last two trailers I have put our spare tire under the bed over the pin box.
Knock on wood, I have never needed it and I like the extra weight there instead of hanging off the back of the trailer.

After a blowout on the D.C. beltway, 40 minutes of the 50 minute tire change was spent tracking down everything I would need to actually CHANGE the tire.
Bottle Jack? Where the heck did I put it? OK, where did I stash the handle.
Whoops, No lug nut wrench! After Torquing the nuts before I left, I put the 1/2 inch set on the garage floor. Torque wrench here... Sockets there.
Gosh I hope the one from the truck fits! Yep.
OK, try to get that giant wind sail off the spare as semi's roar by at 80 MPH plus without getting killed.
BUT I would have really been screwed if it had been in the bed of my truck! (My initial plan for getting it off the bumper). There is NO WAY I could have gotten it out of the truck without disconnecting.
While I might have been strong enough (yea right!) to wiggle it out between the front of the bed and the camper shell, it would have been on the road side of the truck and totally unsafe.
Live and learn...

I have a secret plan for tire changing and it's worked for me since I gave up changing tires for Lent one year. 1-800-TRIPLE AAA

I actually HAVE AAA but I did not want to wait around for them since it was getting late and I really did not want to try backing into my drive in the dark.

One thing about being old....waiting for AAA beats the alternative. And parking in front of the house works just fine, dark or not. We get lazy as our numbers rise.

You don't have to buy a new cover! HONEST! A can of spray paint for plastic works WONDERS! STicks like nothing I've ever seen (I know of one ATV that was painted with that stuff and IT IS STILL WHITE AND PINK!)... Here is what I just did to mine this past week.
Believe me... It looks better in person. Does NOT look like a spray paint job!

That would make a fella frustrated right there.
I keep my lug wrench jack and any other tools all in the same spot.
If I have to change a tire on the side of the road I am more likely to make a wooden ramp to drive up on. Way faster to get the flat tire in the air over busting out the bottle jack.
I like having the tire under the bed as it is fast, it keeps the tire clean and out of the elements, and it puts weight where I want it. I could probably walk in and go to the bedroom, lift the bed up, grab the tire, and walk back out with it all in under 1 minute. Try doing that with one of those bumper contraptions. I have seen those bumper mounts crack and break off too!!!

GREAT idea for spare tire cover graphics.
I also mention to my better half about the tire under the bed.
She said and I quote, " &$@!! NO! "

Sigh, there is about a 6 inch space under my master bed. I have seen a mod somewhere that raises the bed for more storage. I have added that to my "Honey Do" list too.

On my 2011 the space under the bed is enought for at least 4 dead bodies stacked 2 high. My better half says all she needs is enough space for one dead body??????????? Oh she meant for me.

In my 09 Greywolf28bh, I could stack that many bodies under the bed with ease. The biggest problem is picking up the mattress(es) AND the plywood frame to get to them. If the spare tire were under there, the AAA man would not be able to get it out from under all that weight and would walk away disgusted. But the tire would probably smell better than all those bodies.....
Just what is all that space used for anyway? And how do you get to it easily?

*NOTE TO SELF* remember to put the floor jack in the bed of the truck whenever we leave for camping.
Amazing to me, I JUST realized I have no jack for the trailer! Thank heaven I haven't had a flat yet!

Well in our trailer it is not easy to access under the bed. If it ain't easy then the wife ain't gonna use it lol.
It is basically empty so I put the tire and the table extension we have never used under there.
It is difficult to get to so I think it is perfect for holding a tire I may never use. I am not that big but have a way of using my shoulder to hold the plywood lid open and do what ever I need to. I go in there and check the tire pressure a couple times a year. I keep it over inflated by about 10 psi for some insurance and have never had add air to it.
