Norcold Refrigerator Thermometer Mod

We have had our Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8281SS for about a month now and I have done a few mods - this one I thought worked out pleasingly well. We have always found it helpful to be able to keep an eye on the camper refer temps as we have found they vary a lot more than our residential one at home. We have used the remote sensors and display before, basically a hardware store indoor/outdoor gauge.

I wanted something nicer looking for our (to us) very nice camper. While looking on Amazon - what would we do without them?? - I found this Chaney Instrument 00985 Wireless Refrigerator Freezer Thermometer Alarm Set

When I received my order I checked for where the unit might look best near the refrigerator. To my delight I found that it fit perfectly right between the upper and lower doors and that there was a spot on the side of the hinges seemingly designed for it. On closer inspection I found that with one screw I could remove the plastic spacer "box" - this allowed me to place 2 small screws into the back of the thermostat display unit (I checked inside first to make sure of where there was room without screwing into anything important).

My wife thought the bright white display unit was a bit much so I removed the display cover and spray painted it black - then reassembled and secured it in place. To replace batteries I will have to remove the one screw on the "box spacer" and the 2 screws holding the display to it, but that isn't required very often so I can live with it .

We put the sending unit for the top display in the freezer and the sending unit for the bottom temp display in the refer so at a glance we can see whats going on inside of each. What do you think??
